How interesting to read about all the Regans out there. No one seems to have my family background, though. My dad's family, several generations back, immigrated to the U.S. by way of New Orleans, a less common port of entry than Ellis Island (but still an entry point for thousands of immigrants). My dad, William Joseph Regan, was born in DeSoto, Missouri, as was his father, Benedict Bernard Regan. Benedict's parents (my great grandparents) are Joseph __?__ Regan (born somewhere in Missouri) and Anna Harris (born somewhere in Louisiana. Both their sets of parents (according to census records) were born in Ireland and England. I have not been able to trace back that far to determine where in Ireland, although, after reading many of these entries, County Cork eems likely?!? Anyone else out there who's Irish roots trace back to Missouri or Louisiana?

Not sure if I am a REGAN or a RYAN! My Great Grandmother is Nancy I. REGAN who married Cassius M. HITCHCOCK in 1873 Champlain, Clinton Co. New York? In the 1850 Census for Clinton Co., New York she is listed, born in N. Y., in the household of David RYAN and wife Mary, who were both apparantly born in Canada (approx. 1811-1817). I believe David and Mary (Marie GIRARD) RYAN (REGAN) also lived in Vermont as they had a son, William, born there around 1837. Are any of these people familiar to anyone? Please help me find whether I am REGAN or RYAN. By the way, this is a great site. Thank for the opportunity to sign the guestbook!

Didn't realize there were so many posting information in your guest book. I am looking for relatives of my Grandmother, Mary Ann Regan (O'Regan) She married my Grandfather Anthony LaBrier in Crookston MN, which is where her family lived. The only other information I have on her is that she had a brother Michael, which should come as no surprise. She was born in Cork Ireland August 20, 1879. Sure would like to find family.

A year and a half ago I posted on this site. Since then, we (Kevin) and I have connected with the Alice Regan Birmingham branch and now three of us are seeking the others. We have David Regan who married Mary Long in Limerick, Ireland. Sons found so fa : John (died in St. Charles, MO. in 1858) married Catherine Mahony, apparently in Montour County, PA. They had three sons and we are seeking any descendants. Michael b. 1825 who married Teresa Boegel and whose descendants are many in Missouri. William who married Bridget Walsh. No descendants remain. Michael's obituary says he had eight brothers. We know of the three sisters--Alice (m. Patrick Birmingham); Mary (m. Wm. Ayers); and Catherine (m. Patrick Hennessy). Anyone with connections we would ap reciate your help. We would especially like to find the sons of John and Catherine Mahony Regan.

I'm repeating this to show the correct e-mail address. Hi Judi, Fantastic, inspired website! THOMAS REGAN, SEA CAPTAIN. Does this ring a bell with anyone? My great grandfather was Thomas Regan (O'Regan). I'm wondering about his origins in Ireland. Hope this story isn't too long, but here goes: My grandmother' name was Ida Regan (born O'Regan). I a Regan, her brother, Eddie, & her sister, Emma, (& possibly 2 others) arrived in New York by ship sometime around 1863. Their father, Thomas Regan, was a sea Captain. Their mother (name unknown) died in Nova Scotia w ile giving birth to Emma. My grandmo her said her name was O'Regan, but the "O" was dropped into the ocean on the way over. Their father, a Sea Captain, had to leave his children with their aunt in Brooklyn & head back to sea. Due to a shipwreck, his retu n was delayed many, many months. His family thought he had perished at sea. Since their aunt had several children of her own to care for - she found it necessary to put Eddie, Ida, & Emma in a Brooklyn children's home. From there, they were put on an orph n train West. Following is informati n from from the New York Children's Aid Society: "According to our records, Eddie, Ida, & Emma Regan came to the Children's Aid Society on March 6, 1868. Eddie was 10, Ida was 6, & Emma was 4. Eddie's birth date was Fe 2, 1858, Ida's was May 8, 1861, & E ma's was November 6, 1863." All three were sent west to Prairie City, Illinois where Ida went to live with the family of John Evans. Later, a woman named Mrs. Pennington was very anxious to have Ida; so Ida went to liv with her. Mrs. Pennington moved to owa, apparently taking Ida with her." Ida later was sent to a family near Newcastle, California where she, happily for us, met our grandfather to be, Fred Schnabel. Sometime around 1910(?) Ida received word from a broth r who had located her, that her fat er was still living. He had located his other children & at that time was living with his son (a doctor) in Chicago. Ida was unable to visit her father before he died in Chicago.

My grandfather lived in Syracuse and later moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. I'm not sure of the year. He married Mabel Paulos in Hawaii and had one son (my Dad) James Partick McCarthy. This is all that I know about him. When I return to Hawaii I plan on visiting my grandfathers grave site and write down the date of his birth, hopefully that might help a little. I m just sorry I didn't get more info on him from my dad. But with any luck..Irish luck of course I can find out if I have any family around. Very good, that's why I'm back again with a new entry. I'm looking for decendants of my G'father's brothers Francis and John Regan, who went to America in the thirties, we believe to New York. Apparently four sisters went to America as well, their names were Katie, Delia, Maggie and Annie. My G'father died in 1972 aged 77, and as far as we know he was the second eldest of nine. His two other sisters Mary & Nora stayed in Ballyhaunis, Co.Mayo, Ireland with him. Does anyone recognise any of these names? Please get in touch if you do. Thanks Bernadette Regan

My great grandfather, Patrick Henry Reagan, was the first of our family born in the US. He was born 2/23/1848 in Boston, and died of TB in Nebraska in 1885. My aunt did a lot of research, but lost the trail at County Cork, 1846. My great-great grandfather and some of his brothers left Ireland just before the Potato Famine reached catastrophic proportions. They were glassblowers, according to family lore.

A lovely site. Although I`d seen our coat of arms before I didn`t realise we had a motto. I don`t think we`re related. Our branch of the family split up in the 19th century and some went west to the US (I think they settled around Buffalo, NY)and some eas (to Stoke-on-Trent in England). The story goes that my great-grandfather pursued his Irish sweetheart over the Atlantic and then brought her back to Stoke. It would have been more romantic if he`d stayed in America (very Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman) since Stoke (the Potteries) at that time must have been like one of the outer rings of Dante`s Inferno.

I'm trying to find the rest of Bridget's family. She lived in Knockskagh (north of Leap, near Skibbereen), and her next door neighbor and son-in-law was Patrick Regan, who moved to Butte, Monta a for a time, then back to Ireland. Any connections?

I was searching the internet for relatives from my wife's dad's family that I discovered during a visit to a cousin this weekend and ended up at your web page. The name that I was looking for was Mary Anne Regan. Her parents were Patrick Regan and Cathe ine (Kate) Monahan (Irish spelling Minihane). Mary Anne's family were fishermen from Skibbereen (sp?),County Cork, Ireland. She was born on January 4, 1866 and came to New York about 1880. She lived there until a grade school classmate discovered that he was in America. She moved to Oakland, CA and was married in 1894 to Michael Joseph Healy (also from County Cork, Ireland). Mary Anne's siblings were: Margaret (Mahoney), Catherine (Behan), Bridget (Brawley), Patrick, Michael, Jeremiah, Ellen (White), and Julia (McCormick). While I couldn't find a link in your family tree, it was probably no coincidence that they were all from County Cork, Ireland. Do you have any other information that might be helpful tracking this further? Thanks for your help. Steve

Let me tell you a wee bit about my own branch of our family tree. My gg-grandfather Jeremiah O'Regan, a sister, and a brother . . . and perhaps their parents Florence and Joanna . . . went from county Cork to Liverpool and then to New York City in 1848. They very soon resettled in Washington, D.C., where they had 10 children. Their names were Mary A., Florence Paul, Ellen, John E., Charles, Sarah Catharine, William Michael, Jeremiah Jr., Ann, and Ellen. Two died as infants. The second generation dropp d the " O' " to make employment easier. My g-grandfather was John E., who married a Mary O'Connor of Virginia. They had three children, and moved to Washington, D.C., where John died in 1893. Mary "Mollie" took her three children out west to the railhe d Glendive, Montana, in Fall of 1893 to be with her sister there and her mother. There she raised her three children Nellie, Frank John, and William. Frank was my grandfather . . . and it should come as no surprise that my father was also named Frank. I would be very interested in you have any information about the O'Regans which might coincide with my branch of the family, and I would be very interested also in knowing what part of Cork was the origin of your branch. I am also very interested in know ng about the songs these people sang, the stories and jokes they told, and anything they might remember about Ireland. Thank you. I can be reached at .

My James Regan came (or was sent) to Australia between 1835 and 1849 as he was married in Melbourne, Aust. in 1849 to Catherine Farmer from Fermanagh. He is my one and only 'famous' ancestor so far (my gg grandfather) and he and a friend found the first gold at Ballarat goldfields in Victoria, Aust. in 1851. I'll keep a lookin'. Great site.

Being born a Reagan, I must say that this site was a blast, I have really enjoyed this look in to another side of our rather large family. I am from the Sevier county Tn. branch of the family. Would like to share with you a few things that I can remmemb r that my Grandmother told me..."Yes we are related to the John S. Reagan that the bridge in Sevier county is named for... and yes we did lose a member of the family at the Alamo in Tx...and Yes we did have a Memeber of the family serve in the Confederati n Government...but always rememmber just as many got shot and hung for horse thevin and shine runnin as ever did anything good, it is up to you as to how the family rememmbers you." My Reagie always had a way of putting things so you could see them clearly and we still miss her. My GrandFather's name was Lee Roy Reagan (Daddy Lee) MY grandmother's name was Ester Mae (Reagie) They had 4 children, 2 boys--Carl Lee and Robert C.(my father), 2 girls--Christine and Billie...Looking at your family photos was almost like looking a ours, it was amazing. Thank-you ever so much for this look into our ever expanding family...By the way we will welcome another new Reagan to the family in Aug. 1999, My brother and his wife are expecting a boy.

Hello, My name is John Reagan but as your history shows, my relatives were named Regan in the Irish records. My grandfather was William Regan born Midleton, Cork 1888. His parents were Michael Regan and Mary Ronyane. Michael's parents were David Regan and Ellen Keefe. Micheal came to this country to meet his brothers John, Thomas, (one missing) and James (James was not really a brother but the son of a sister - no one knew). They settled in New London, CT. I would guess that we have some connection. Do you know the place in Cork? I have a great book on Midleton. I have two connections to the McCarthys. Michael's first wife was Mary McCarthy. James, the son of a sister, had a mother that later in life had the last name McCarthy (not sure of the f rst name - stayed in Midleton on the Town rd.). Great site!

I too am looking for my Irish heritage. We are the Regan clan from New York City (Brooklyn and Queens Counties). My GGGrandfather, Micheal Regan (O'Regan) came to America, at age nine years, on the ship named 'Nathaniel B. Weeks, in 1851. Michael, in 1861, joined the 62nd Infantry Company of New York City, to fight in the "Great American Conflict (Civil War)." He was 19 years old at the time. He was a private in the 'Anderson Zouaves.' Very fancy uniforms: red pantaloons, blue vesy, white shirt, red fezz (hat). That uniform was discarded after the first battles in Virginia. Changed to regular union garb. Was serverely wounded in battle of Seven Pines, Virginia (June 1862) and lost right leg (?). Sent to Brooklyn City Hospital to recover. He met Sarah O'Shea, eloped, left the Army, and lived at 127 Eagle Street, Brooklyn. Raised family. Edward (son) was m Grandfather. He begot Edward Patrick (my father), Marion, and twins William Michael and Michael. Michael died soon after birth. Edward Patrick begot William E.(1925) and Ronald V. (me) (1934). I maried Barbara Boyer-Wright from Iola, Kansas in 1966. We begot Ron Jr. (27), Partick H.(26), and daughter by my first marriage, Sheryle (Sheri) in 1958. That's about it. If you would like, please respond anytime. I lived in Utica in 70's and was in Air Force Reserve at Syracuse Airport. Never met any Regan there, just a lot of lovely Lithuanians !!! TA - TA

Came to Missouri in early 1850's, married in St. Paul, MO, moved to Audrain and Montgomery Counties. Michael's sister Alice married a Birmingham; sister Katherine a Hennessey. Any cousins out there? Am just beginning my slow and frustrating search for information on our family - believe we may be related to President Ronald Reagan due to facial resemblance to my grandfather, Daniel Theodore Reagan. My grandfather was born in Sevier County, Tennessee in 1903. My great grandfather's name was Richard Radway Reagan who died in 1944 in Knoxville, Tennessee, but I'm not sure when or where he was born or what his parents names were. It appears that his parents came from Ireland and my great grandfather an his numerous siblings were first generation Americans. My mother, Doris Reagan, was the second of 9 children born to Daniel Theodore Reagan.
