This is my Michael W. Smith page. I guess you could say I am one of Michael's
biggest fans. I have all his CD's and any others that he plays or sings
on. His music always seems to reach me exactly where I am spiritually.
My favorite song is "Outta This World". I know that probably sounds crazy,
but it is my anthem for living under grace not law. I came out of a rather
legalistic church about 7 years ago, just after Change Your World
was released. So as the Lord revealed His grace to me this song just hit
me between the eyes. And I realized that life is worth living. Awesome!
Back in the summer of 1993, the Lord gave us a wonderful gift. We met and
became friends with Michael's parents, who are two of the most wonderful
people in the world. We corresponded and the following summer we had the
pleasure of seeing them again in Nashville. They took us on a tour of Rocketown
(during the day since adults aren't allowed at night unless they work there)
and we had dinner. Well the Lord has such a glorious sense of humor and
so much love for his chosen ones. I cannot describe to you my feelings
when Barbara asked if we would like to attend the worship meeting at Michael's
house the next day. I was in shock. Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined
I would ever meet Michael, much less worship with his family and friends.
The worship time was something I will never forget. I thought I had died
and gone to heaven. We sang, prayed, shared, and had a devotional from
Bill who is a friend and neighbor. Bill's wife, Rhonda, was so caring and
made us feel like we belonged. And Debbie's mom and grandparents were so
friendly that we really felt like part of the family.
Afterwards we talked and shared about Michael's music and concerts. We
told of our many road trips to see his concerts, since he didn't come to
New Orleans. Since Michael also owned a Miata at the time, we shared our Miata stories and I told him about the High Reward Miata Club I had started in N.O. We had so much fun. Never, never in my dreams had I thought I would be sitting in his kitchen talking about our cars and lives. God is so Awesome!!! Here we are with Michael after the worship time.
I'm sure God was enjoying Himself immensely as He watched His children
learning that life is worth living. He had watched me try to get backstage
passes to every concert we attended and get so frustrated when I couldn't
get them. But God knew what he had planned for that day. Isn't He a wonderful
Lord?!
The following month we returned to Nashville with our kids. One night
our teenagers, Amber and Brian went to Rocketown. They had a great time
and met some neat people. The next day we got to tour Deer Valley Studio
and later that day we watched the Deer Valley Baseball team play a game.
We also got to meet Toby of DCTalk since he was the 2nd baseman. Michael
played shortstop and made 2 homeruns!! Of course they won. Here are Amber and Brian with Michael and his Miata.
Then in October we returned once more to Nashville. This time for Kim and
David's wedding. Kim is Michael's sister. Michael, Debbie, and all five
children were in the wedding and Michael sang "The Other Side of Me" for
his sister and her husband. It was beautiful. We were included in every
activity that weekend. Bob played golf with all the men and we had brunch
at Michael's home the day after the wedding. It was a weekend to remember. Here is a photo of Amber and Brian with Michael at the brunch.
Since then we moved to Denver and then on to California and it's a long way from Nashville. It has been 4 years since we've seen Michael, other than in concert. But I will always hold those memories close to my heart. The Lord is good and if I never get to see them again it's okay. Bacause I will never forget the gift God gave us. And mostly I will never forget Michael's parents who have been so kind and generous. They are truly our heroes. After all "friends are friends forever".
Michael's Cd, This Is Your Time was released in 1999 and I love it. My favorite songs from the CD are "I Still Have The Dream" and "Reach Out To Me". We saw the This Is Your Time tour in Visalia CA and Michael was so funny!!! It was a great concert.
Michael's new instrumental CD Freedom is awesome and so is the new Worship CD. My favorite song from that CD is "Above All"
Michael once again has let the Holy Spirit speak to him through his music and
in turn touches us in our deepest spiritual places. Music is such a special
tool the Lord uses to speak to us. Personally I could give my entire testimony
of my life in Christ by using a different song to illustrate each spiritual
step the Lord has lead me to take. I hope
that you let the Lord speak to you through this wonderful music too.
I have added some links to other MWS sites below. I hope you enjoy this
