OUR DZIADZI

On September 13, 1997, we lost someone very special to us, Dziadzi. As time goes by I think of all the memories I have of him. Even some of the memories that I have of him my daughters talk about too. Amanda was talking to me and she said, "Remember how Dziadzi used to knock underneath the table and say that somebody was at the door?". I'm sure glad we have memories that we could carry with us throughout our lives.

I remember going to Babci and Dziadzi's house and Dziadzi would go to the "candy drawer" and give me some. It was Dziadzi who gave me my first "circus peanut." Not too long ago, I was talking to one of my cousins and she said that it was Dziadzi who gave her her first malted milk ball!

How about Dziadzi's unanswerable questions? "Were you in the wagon when you fell out?" If you said you weren't in the wagon, he would ask then how could you have fallen out? If you said you were in the wagon, he would say then you didn't fall out! He was the first to ask me, "What came first the chicken or the egg?"

Will there ever be (or has there ever been) anyone who played solitaire as often as Dziadzi? I remember how worn his cards would get. Someone would buy him a new deck, but he still wanted to use the old one. I was always amazed when we would go over there and he would ask, "Jack, Ten, or Deuce?" and he would make three piles and on the bottom of one of the piles was either a jack, ten, or deuce! How did he do that?

We miss you Dziadzi!
