This candle burns for the 17 innocent cats who were cruelly beaten to death by vandals at Noah's Ark Animal Shelter in Fairfield, Iowa on the weekend of March 7, 1997. The follwing information was found at "Cat Vigil":
"On the weekend of March 7, 1997, vandals broke into the Noah's Ark Animal Shelter, (a non-profit, no kill shelter housing about 60 cats and kittens) in Fairfield, Iowa. When the staff arrived on Monday morning to feed the animals they were surprised to find the bodies of 17 bloody cats who had been beaten to death and 10 other severely injured cats in need of medical attention. Many of the cats have also been emotionally traumatized by the incident and are now fearful of strangers, even though they are in need of adoption."
I remember seeing this on the news when it happened. I could only cry as I thought of how horrified those poor innocent babies must have been with no way to escape. The broadcast I saw gave no information on how to contact the shelter to send donations or cards, but now thanks to "Cat Vigil", all those wanting to contact Noah's Ark Animal Shelter can do so at:
