Ben is now three, and we get a big kick out of his sense of humor and imagination. For a while he would tell us things that George Washington showed him and taught him. Then he moved up in his associations, and told me God showed him how to wash his face.
Ben is a dynamo, and seems pretty well coordinated. He loves
playing with his neighborhood buddies, and does a good job of
keeping up with them.
One of Ben's favorite places is the Carnegie Science Center.
He also enjoys picnics, biking with dad on the rail trails, and camping.
On May 30, 1998, Ben tried (and succeeded in) riding his bike with no training wheels.
He took almost no support from mom or dad, and was on his own immediately. This picture
is from his first day of two-wheeling. While he did fall several times, he did not cry, and
eagerly tried again. We are proud of him!
Within a couple of days Ben's older friends were biking on 2 wheels, or at least raising the training wheels to get ready for
2 wheels. Ben's a trendsetter.
Sept. 15 Ben and his dad went for a 38 mile bike hike on a rail trail. The strategy was that Ben would ride his bike as far as he wanted, they would chain the bike to a tree, and then Ben would ride in the trailer. On the return trip, Ben would have
to ride the same distance. Ben pedaled for one mile each way on his 12-inch wheels. Good job, Ben!
