Back to Ann Lewis's Table of Contents Ruth Joan Price (1936-1986) The Theodore Turley Family Book, p. 501 Ruth, daughter of Victor E. And Lillian Fowles Price, was born December 16, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Granite High School in 1954 and from the University of Utah in 1958. Later that same year Ruth began teaching third grad at Forrest School. For the next five years she taught second grade at Nibley Park School, and then on to Rose Park and Uintah Schools to teach fifth grade. Having had enough of Salt Lake School District, she transferred to Granite District and began teaching at the Hillsdale School in Granger. There she has taught third, third-fourth combination, fifth, and first grades. She enjoys teaching very much and especially enjoys the first grade youngsters. They are so full of life and questions and besides they think their teacher is great, which is a great ego booster! Ruth has traveled to nearly every state in the U. S., leaving only Minnesota, North Dakota, North and South Carolina, and Hawaii to go. She has traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean, and through every providence in Canada except one. She spent a month in Alaska and gives a slide-lecture tour of her trip. Besides traveling she has taken dance lessons from Arthur Murray Dance Studios and has won tow gold medal trophies for dancing: one for the Samba and one for the Tango. She is active in the Church and is presently Cultural Refinement teacher in the Sunday morning Relief Society of Granite Fifth Ward. She has worked in Mutual and as chorister and organist; in both Junior and Senior Sunday School as a teacher; has been assistant editor of the ward paper; and has been Era Director. Two years ago she became acquainted with some Amish people in Ohio and last year spent some time teaching in an Amish school, where they have thirty-six children in grades one through eight. It was quite a challenge! Ruth enjoys knitting, crocheting, and other forms of handiwork and also making ceramics. [Death date from IGI]
