Virgil Bushman Smith (1925-1998)

Virgil Bushman Smith, born 4 January 1925, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.  Residence: Salt Lake City, Utah.  Received his B. S. Degree in 1951 and M. S. Degree in 1954 from BYU; edited the Wye literary magazine at BYU 1952-53.  Army basic training 1943; technical training in radio and weather observations; embarked for Europe 1945 and served in England, France, Germany, etc.; returned 1946.  Appointed editorial assistant for the Deseret Sunday School in October 1954.  His poems are included in various magazines and some are found in Vol. 3 of “Utah Sings.”  His M. S. Thesis is on “Mormon Education 1830-1844.”  He served a mission to the North Central States 1946-48 and was District President.  He married 31 August 1953, Salt Lake Temple, Carol Ann Fischer, daughter of Frank Truman Fisher and Nellie Rex Smith.  She was born 2 January 1934, Taft, California.
