Martin I. Bushman Dies in Provo

Martin Isaac Bushman, 67, of Provo, a former Lehi resident, died at the family residence there Sunday, following a long illness resulting from a paralytic stroke suffered some time ago.

Mr. Bushman was born October 9, 1865, the son of Martin B. and Lucinda Goodwin Bushman.  He was reared to young manhood in this community and in 19?5 he went to Provo and later graduated from the Brigham Young Academy.  He then served as a teacher in Provo public schools and surrounding districts for nineteen years.

He served as an officer on the police force four years and for the past seventeen years had been an attendant in the Utah State hospital.  He was an active member of the L. D. S. church.  He married Ruia Holden June 4, 1890 in the Manti temple.

Mr. Bushman fulfilled a foreign mission to England about twenty-three years ago.

Besides his widow he is survived by three sons, Elias L. and Ted Bushman of Salt Lake City, Robert Bushman of Provo, also four sisters, Mrs. Emmeret Archibald, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Flora Zimmerman, Lehi; Mrs. Annie Miller, Cardston, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Very Trunkey, Lehi, also six grandchildren.

PROVO--Martin Isaac Bushman, 67. former Provo city school teacher and police officer, died Sunday night at the family residence, 133 East First North street, as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered a year ago. Mr. Bushman Mr. Bushman was born October 9. 1865, at Lehi, a son of Martin B. and Lucinda Goodwin Bushman. He came to Provo in 1886 and later graduated from the Brigham Young academy. He then served as a teacher in the Provo public schools and surrounding districts for 19 years. While a teacher he initiated and sponsored school hikes and school ground activities. He served as an officer on the Provo police force four years and for the past 17 years had been an attendant in the Utah State hospital. He was an active member of the L. D. S. church. He married Ruia Holden June 4, 1890, in the Manti L. D. S. temple. Besides his widow. surviving are three sons. Bliss L. and Ted Bushman, Salt Lake; Robert Bushman, Provo; four sisters. Mrs. Emmeret Archibold, Salt Lake; Mrs. Florence Zimmerman, Lehi; Mrs. Annie Miller, Cardston, Alberta, Canada Mrs. Vera Trunker, Lehi, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. in the L. D. S. Third ward chapel, with burial in Provo City cemetery, under the direction of the Berg mortuary.
