Wickliff D. Bushman (1874-1897)

St. Joseph, Navajo County, Arizona, Feb 20, 1897–Our village has been visited by the measles for the first time in our history of over twenty years, and as the greater number of our ward were born here, and all of these were stricken with the disease, the older ones were very sick.  In the case of Wickliff B. Bushman the illness terminated fatally.  As he was recovering he caught cold, and on the 11^th insl [?] died, aged 23 years and 1 day.  He was an exemplary young man, patient and quiet, and was always an obedient son.  The funeral was held at the ward house on the 13^th, Presidents L. H. Hatch and J. H. Richards and others spoke in high terms of the integrity of the deceased.

We have had an excellent winter, more snow and rain this month than any February for twenty years, consequently our prospects for farming and stock raising are better than they have been.        

This country is building up and a spirit of contentment is the rule.

The Deseret News and Juvenile Instructor are welcome visitors to nearly all the families of the ward, and are much appreciated.
