He was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Church by his father on his eighth birthday at Saratoga Springs.

He received his education in the grade schools of Lehi and Lehi High School.

His early life was spent in farming, stock raising and dry farming.  Always he has been fond of good horses and cattle.

April 28, 1926, he married Wanda Dickerson of American Fork in the Salt Lake Temple.  He is the father of six children: Melvin Suel, Beth, Richard D. (deceased), Margaret Ann, Mark Albert, and Don John.

In 1937 he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a carpenter and is still employed there.  His work has taken him away from home considerably.
