Biography. (The following copied by Frances McNabb
Gray several years ago from a book in a library in Los Angeles. The book is probably from
a history of La Salle County, Illinois.)
Russell E. Stanford is well and favorably known thoughout La Salle County,
and is a worthy representative of two of the families of this county.
Russell Stanford was born in Lowell, La Salle county and stayed there until February 1898.
He dwelt in Vermillion township all but six or seven of these years were spent on his
father's homestead. When a man he rented a quarter-section of this property of his father
and the first land owned by him was he undivided half of a tract of eighty acres adjoining
the old home place. He later added about forty acres to this land which he cultivated in
connection with the land owned by his father. After the death of his father he took over
the farm. Everything affecting the welfare of this community has received the earnest
attention of Russell Stanford. For three years he was supervisor of Vermillion township,
for seven years or more he was a road commissioner, and for many years he served as a
school director. In his political belief he was a Republican.
