Born: 26 Sep 1881 Old Rolfe, Pocahontas, Iowa Father: John Blake JOLLIFFE Married: 29 Aug 1907 #M4 George Daniel MCNABB in Old Rolfe, Pocahontas, Iowa See #M4 George Daniel MCNABB for children Hattie was born in a log cabin on the farm her parents homesteaded near Old Rolfe, Pocahontas, Iowa about five miles from the present town of Rolfe. In that vicinity she received her education and grew to womanhood. Her father was born in Stratton, England in 1841. As a boy he came with his parents to Ontario, Canada, and lived there until he was 21. He homesteaded near Plover in Pocahontas County. His first home was made of sod. He married Janette in 1867. Her father was the first Methodist minister to preach in Pocahontas County. Janette was born in Toland, Connecticut, in 1848. Hattie was married to George Daniel McNabb at her parents' home in old Rolfe. Most of their married lives were spent at Britt, Hancock, Iowa, except that in the earlier years they lived at Emmetsburg. Hattie's main interest besides her family was teaching a Sunday School class of grade school girls which she did for nearly thirty years. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the WSCS. Her hobbies included the keeping of the family record books for both the McNabb and Jolliffe lines. She made copies of these records for her brothers, sisters and children. She also enjoyed handicrafts, sewing and gardening. Reva McNabb, her daughter, said her mother was strict. For example, if the children didn't hang up the clothes, they were asked to hang them up 50 to 100 times as punishment. We are indebted to Hattie for her painstaking work in her important hobby of keeping up handwritten records (of both the McNabbs and Jolliffes) which have been extremely useful to us. Her McNabb records are on Microfilm in the Family History Library #1421867. They are labeled "George McNabb family records/compiled by Mrs. George McNabb. Index compiled by Connie Bell." Filmed in 1988.
