#M8 MCNABB, Daniel and #M9 GEORGE, Mary Frances Daniel McNabb: Born: 5 Feb 1845 Urbana or Victory, Champaign, Ohio. Father: John MCNABB III #M16 (3 Feb 1809-4 Oct
1892) Married: 29 Sep 1869 Mt. Palatine, Putnam, Illinois to Mary Frances GEORGE #M9. They had nine children. Mary Frances George: Born: 27 Sep 1849 Father: Robert Henry GEORGE #M18 (2 May 1823-?) Children: Shortly after Daniel's birth his parents moved to Magnolia, Putnam, Illinois, where Daniel grew up. Daniel and his wife Mary and family followed farming, living near Mt. Palatine until 1891 when they moved to the neighboring county in Tonica, La Salle, Illinois. Their daughter Anna said that Daniel was a mediator for disputes among the Quakers. He lived in Quaker country. Quakers did not believe in lawyers, so Daniel would help resolve their differences by listening to the problems and making decisions. Reva McNabb, a granddaughter, watched him hold court from his front porch. His reputation followed him to Britt. The large family moved to Britt, Hancock, Iowa, in 1902, where their son George Daniel McNabb was living. They purchased a large farm three miles southeast of Britt. By that time, three of the children were married. The farm was very low and wet, and Daniel, now 57, became one of the early promoters of drainage projects. For some time he surveyed for drainage in Hancock and Kossuth countries. At times he resorted to legal actions against the county boards of supervisors in order to accomplish his work. On the whole his interest and activity in drainage matters had a wholesome effect. At the time of the couple's fiftieth wedding anniversary it was said that Hancock County had more than one hundred drainage districts and was one of the best drained sections of the state. The census of Britt township in 1905 reports that Daniel, then 60, was a real estate dealer. The value of his farm was listed at $3,000. Around this time he sold his farm to Elmer and Lena Fisher (Lena was a daughter) and moved into the city of Britt. Daniel and Mary celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Britt on Sunday, October 12, 1919, delayed from September 29 because of a town quarantine. All the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law were in attendance. Daniel and Mary had 36 grandchildren. See photo below. Mary Frances George, Daniel's wife, born in New York, moved with her family to Illinois when she was 15. At 16 she taught school near Pontiac, Livingston, Illinois, and later, near Mt. Palatine.
