  • August 9, 1943. Enlisted in the United States Navy. Sworn in at Los Angeles.
  • August 10, 1943. United States Naval Training Station, San Diego, California. Boot camp.
  • September 30, 1943. United States Naval Air Station (North Island), San Diego, California. Parachute Material School (12 weeks.)
  • December 31, 1943. United States Naval Air Station. Alameda, California. For duty.
  • January 6, 1944. United States Naval Air Station. Seattle, Washington. For duty in Carrier Aircraft Service Unit 7 (CASU 7) January 6, 1944;  and Carrier Escort Squadron (VC 91) February 11, 1944..
  • March 1, 1944. Naval Auxiliary Aircraft Facility, C. County Airport, Astoria, Oregon. For duty: VC 91.
  • July 17, 1944. Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Holtville, California. For duty: VC 91.
  • August 9, 1944. Naval Auxiliary Air Station. Los Alamitos, California. For duty: VC 91, August 9, 1944 and CASU 33, September 30, 1944.
  • April 2, 1945. Small Craft Training Center. Roosevelt Base. Terminal Island, California. For transfer to U.S.S. Greenwich Bay (AVP 41).
  • April 12, 1945. United States Naval Air Station. Terminal Island, California. For temporary duty in Parachute Loft.
  • May 10, 1945. Small Craft Training Center. Roosevelt Base. Terminal Island, California. For duty to AVP 41 (U.S.S. Greenwich Bay.) (On May 14, 1945 left for Seattle by train on troop sleeper.)
  • May 16, 1945. R.B. Kirtland, Washington. For transfer to ship.
  • May 19, 1945. Aboard U.S.S. Greenwich Bay at Lake Washington Shipyards
  • May 20, 1945. Ship commissioned. Peter F. Boyle, commander, commanding. Ship was commissioned at Lake Washington Shipyards, Houghton, Washington. It was the last of the AVPs to leave the LWS. Following is the tour of the ship while I was aboard.

On Board U.S.S. Greenwich Bay

  • June 1945. Shakedown cruise. Down Pacific coast from Seattle to San Diego.

  • June 15, 1945. Buoy, then Naval Repair Base, San Diego, California.

  • August 26, 1945. Underway for Pearl Harbor

  • September 1, 1945. Naval Air Station, Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii.

  • September 7, 1945. Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii.

  • September 10, 1945. Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station, Oahu, Hawaii.

  • September 15, 1945. Naval Air Station, Midway Island, Pacific Ocean.

  • September 25, 1945. Offshore in Buckner Bay and Chimu Bay, Okinawa.

  • October 5, 1945. Gulf of Pohai, off Taku, China.

  • October 21, 1945. Tsingtao, China. Anchored off shore.

  • November 22, 1945. Shanghai, China. Moored Kailin Min. Ad. Dock. (Cement dock)

  • January 18, 1946. Hiro, Japan. Anchored Hiro Wan. Island of Honshu.

  • February 23, 1946. Sasebo, Japan. Anchored bay. Island of Kyushu.

  • March 26, 1946. Transferred off Greenwich Bay to Port director Sasebo, Japan.

Conclusion of Naval Tour (off Greenwich Bay)

  • April 2, 1946. Transfered to U.S.S. Columbus (CA 74) for transportation to USA.

  • April 17, 1946. United States Naval Receiving Station, San Pedro, California.

  • April 18, 1946. United States Naval Personnel Separation Center, San Pedro, California.

  • April 20, 1946.  Discharged from United States Navy.

Net Service: 2 years, 8 months, 12 days
