John Romney Pyper has written several articles relating to the Turley family some of which appear on this web site and in the Theodore Turley Family Newsletter. He is the eldest son of William R. Pyper and Marguerite Romney, grandson of Miles A. Romney and Frances Turley, and great grandson of Isaac Turley and Clara Ann Tolton. He grew up in Phoenix and lives in Houston, Texas. An autobiographical sketch appeared in the October 1999 Theodore Turley Family Newsletter as follows: "I was born in Tucson, Arizona, on May 22, 1937, to William R. Pyper and Marguerite Romney. We lived in Phoenix, Las Cruces, Fabens and El Paso before settling in Phoenix. Mother was the youngest daughter of Miles A. Romney and Frances Turley of Colonia Juarez. Frances was the 3rd child of Isaac Turley and Clara Ann Tolton of Beaver, Utah. My earliest memory is on the train going to the Colonies when two years old. I almost died of a very high fever. Priesthood blessings resulted in a miracle. So, truly, am I not "half Mexican"? "I served a mission in Uruguay and Paraguay. My wife is Kathleen (Kimball) Derrick. We have seven children. I received a Ph.D in Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois in 1968, taught at several colleges and universities and worked in the Houston School District for 23 years. I teach English to foreigners, and study and write about family history, various religious subjects and basic English learning resources." Home Page |
