The following additional variants have come to my attention recently. Source
is Jennifer Publicover and is quoted on the Franz Bueckopfer page.
They are Buetikofer, Bittighofer, Biettighofer and Bittighofer.
Bell's Notes refers to the notes of Dr. Winthrop Bell compiled
by him in preparation for his book The "Foreign Protestants" and the
Settlement of Nova Scotia published by the University of Toronto Press in 1961.
Of these notes he stated in a typeset explanation sent to Wallace F. Gray in February
1963, "If life and strength hold out after that work is done [the completion of
further historical work], he [Bell] would think of putting in shape for publication the
mass of information in his possession about the hundreds of separate families of that
immigration--though publication would probably depend on descendants of those immigrants
showing enough interest to justify the printing costs involved."
I have used Bell's Notes as the primary source of the surname variations though some of
these variations appear in many other documents. See also http://geocities.datacellar.net/Heartland/6625/resources.html#BELL
Scott Winston Teal, Presenting the Publicovers was published in 1986. It covers

Harris Publicover. From a series of letters written to me dating from
1949 to 1960. Harris Publicover of Blandford, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, was the son of
Arternas Augustine Publicover and Helena Publicover (her maiden name.)
