WHEN I FIRST GOT MY FARMALL A IT WAS NOT VERY USEFUL AS FAR AS TODAYS  IMPLEMENTS ARE CONCERNED. I KEPT THINKING THERE HAD TO BE SOME WAY TO PUT A HITCH ON MY TRACTOR.
I HAD SEEN SUPER A'S WITH 3-POINT HITCHES. THE  TRACTORS
HAD HEAVY FENDERS AND A ROCKER SHAFT THAT THE LIFT ARMS
WORKED OFF OF. WHY NOT PUT THE FENDERS AND ROCKER SHAFT
ON THE REGULAR A? I DID! NOW THE BIG PROBLEM WAS HYDRAULICS. HOW COULD I RUN A HYD. PUMP? THE BELT PULLEY PTO!  THE BELT PULLEY WAS RATED AT AROUND 1200 RPMS.

I MADE A RESERVOIR OUT OF 6-INCH PIPE AND WELDED ENDS,AND
FITTINGS ON IT AND MOUNTED IT UNDER THE SEAT ON THE SEAT
FRAME. THE PUMP IS MOUNTED TO THE RESERVOIR AND POWERED
BY THE BELT PULLEY PTO. ALIGNMENT OF PUMP IS CRITICAL!!
I THEN MOUNTED A 2X6 INCH CYLINDER FROM A BRACKET THAT
ATTACHED TO THE 2 BOLT HOLE ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION.
THE ROD END OF THE CYLINDER ATTACHED TO THE ROCKER SHAFT.
TO THIS POINT I HADN'T DRILLED ANY HOLES OR ALTERED THE
TRACTOR OTHER THAN REPLACING PARTS AND USING EXISTING
MOUNTING HOLES!
I MOUNTED A MANUAL CONTROL VALVE TO THE FRONT, LEFT HAND
SEAT BRACKET. I HAD TO DRILL 2 SMALL HOLES IN THE SEAT BRACKET TO ACCOMPLISH THIS. I PIPED EVERYTHING UP AND FILLED THE
RESERVOIR. THE LIFT WORKED GREAT!!
THE  ONLY DRAW BACK IS TO HAVE POWER THE PTO HAS TO BE RUNNING. BUT THIS IS BETTER THAN NO LIFT AT ALL.
