BABY BUNTING

A good beginner's project, made of crocheted rectangles striped in blue, pink and white hand-stitched together.
Finished size: 20 inches long, 11 inches across chest.
Materials:
Acrylic sport weight yarn 2 ounce skeins [Red Heart(Tm)Luster Sheen Yarn]:
3 skeins in blue, one skein pink, one skein white.
Crochet hook size: E
White 18 inch separating zipper
White thread & needle.
Abbreviations:
beg - beginning, ch - chain, sc - single crochet, dc - double crochet, dec - decrease,
hdc - half double crochet, yo - yarn(wool)over, st(s) - stitches.
Gauge: 11 sts = 2 inches; 8 rows in pattern = 2-1/4 inches.
INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Turning chain at beginning of double crochet rows counts as first dc.
For color changes, add new color when working off last two loops of last stitch at end of row.
BACK
With blue yarn, chain 62.
Row 1 {right side}: Dc in 3rd(third) chain from hook and in each ch across (61 dcs).
Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Skip sc under ch 3, dc in each sc across, break off blue yarn and add pink yarn at end of row. Ch 2, turn.
Row 4: Hdc in each dc, breaking off pink yarn and adding white yarn at end of row.
Ch 2, turn.
Row 5: Hdc in each hdc, break off white yarn and add blue yarn at end of row. Ch 2, turn.
Rows 6-8: Repeat Row 5, working Row 6 in blue, Row 7 in white, and Row 8 in pink. Change to blue yarn at end of Row 8. Ch 3, turn.
Row 9: Skip hdc under ch 3, dc in each hdc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 10-11: Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
Repeat Rows 4-11 for pattern until 72 rows are completed, changing to blue yarn
at end of Row 72. Ch 3, turn.
RIGHT BACK NECK SHAPING
Row 1: Skip hdc under ch 3, dc over 18 hdc. Over next 2 hdc, work dc decrease as follows: YO, insert hook in next hdc and draw through, yo and draw through 2 loops,
yo and insert hook into next st, yo and draw through, yo and draw through 2 loops,
yo and draw through last 3 loops on hook. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Over first 2 dc, work sc dec as follows: Insert hook in first st (dec st of last row), yo and draw through, insert hook into next st, yo and draw through,
yo and draw through 3 loops on hook. Sc across to end of row. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Skip sc under ch 3, dc in each st, working dc decrease over last 2 sts of row. Fasten off.
LEFT BACK NECK SHAPING
Row 1: With right side facing, attach blue yarn to 20th(twentieth) st from right neck shaping. Ch 2 and work dc dec over next 2 sts. Dc across to end of row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc over first 7 dc. Work sc dec over last 2 sts. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Skip st under ch 2, dc dec over next 2 sts. Dc across to end of row. Fasten off.
LEFT FRONT
With blue yarn, ch 31. Work as for back over 30 sts for 72 rows. To work neck shaping, work as for right back neck shaping. Fasten off.
RIGHT FRONT
Work as for left front for 72 rows. Fasten off. To work neck shaping, with right side facing, attach blue yarn to 10th(tenth) hdc from right. Ch 3 and work dc dec over next 2 sts.
Dc across to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Work next two rows as for Rows 2-3 of left back neck shaping. Fasten off.
SLEEVE (make 2)
With blue yarn, ch 47. Work as for back over 46 sts for 19 rows. Fasten off. Remember
to make two sleeves.
HOOD
With blue yarn, ch 68. Work as for back over 67 sts for 27 rows. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave ends of yarn into back of work. Attach white yarn and work a row of sc up each center front edge, ending at Row 72. Sew zipper, follow mfg's directions, along center front. Join front to back at shoulder seams.
On first row of each sleeve, mark center. Join each sleeve to bunting, matching center of sleeve to shoulder seam. With wrong sides facing, fold bunting at shoulder seams. Join front to back along side and sleeve seams. Whip-stitch front to back along bottom.
Fold hood in half with wrong sides facing; whipstitch edges together along beg chain for back of hood. For front hood edge, fold over last four rows to right side and tack in place. With wrong sides facing, join bottom edge of hood to neck edge, easing to fit as necessary.
To make a hooded bathrobe when baby outgrows the bunting, just remove the bottom stitches.

KNITTED SWEATER and BOOTIES

Size for 6 months
Materials:
Worsted-Wt (4-ply) yarn: white 2 skeins, blue 1 skein.
White buttons, 1/2 inch diameter, eight.
Knitting needles, sizes 3 and 7.
Stitch holder,tapestry needle,white thread,scissors,ruler.
Abbreviations: K=knit,P=purl,YO=yarn over,st(s)=stitch(es), st st=stockinette stitch,tog=together.
Gauge: With size 7 needles in st st, 5 sts = 1 inch,
6 rows = 1 inch.
Moss Stitch: Moss stitch is worked on an even number of stitches.
Row 1: K 1, *P 1, K 1,repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: P 1, *K 1, P 1,repeat from * to end of row.
INSTRUCTIONS
Knit the Sweater. Bottom Front.
With blue yarn and size 3 needles, cast on 48 sts. Work in moss st for 1 inch. Cut blue yarn and join white yarn. With size 7 needles, work in st st(K across for right side rows, P across from wrong side rows) for 5 inches, ending with a K row.
Front Yoke: Change back to size 3 needles. Bind off 2 sts, P to within the last 2 sts, bind off last 2 sts. Join blue yarn and work in moss st for 2-1/2 inches, ending with a wrong side row.
Front shoulder shaping
Working in moss st, work 13 sts and place on stitch holder, bind off 18 sts in pattern, work last 13 sts. Continuing in moss st, work 9 rows on 13 sts remaining on needle. For buttonhole row, work 3 sts, YO, P 2 together, work 3 sts, YO, K 2 together, work 3 sts. Work on more row in moss st. Bind off in pattern. Place 13 sts from holder onto size 3 needle. Join blue yarn at neck edge and work 9 rows in moss st. For buttonhole row, work 4 sts, YO, P 2 tog, work 3 sts, YO, K 2 tog, work 2 sts. Work one more row in moss st. Bind off in pattern.
BACK
Work same as the front, up to the yoke. For yoke, work as for front, but work in moss st for 3-1/4 inches, ending with a wrong side row. For shoulder shaping, work as for front, binding off each shoulder after working 9 rows; do not make buttonholes.
SLEEVES (make two)
With blue yarn and size 3 needles, cast on 30 sts. Work in moss st for 3/4 inche. Cut blue yarn and join white yarn. With size 7 needles, * increase 1 st, K 10, repeat from * two more times, increase 1 st(34 sts). * Continue working in st st for 3/4 inch, ending with a P row. K across, increasing 1 st at each end of row. Repeat from * until you have 46 sts on needle. Continue working in st st until sleeve measures 7 inches from cast-on edge, ending with a P row.
UPPER SLEEVE SHAPING
Bind off 5 sts, P row. Repeat these two rows two more times. Bind off remaining 16 sts.
FINISHING
With right sides facing up and shoulders touching, lay front and back of sweater on a flat surface. Overlap shoulders 1/2 inch with buttonholes on top. With blue yarn and tapestry needle, whip-stitch shoulders together at sleeve edges. With right side facing up, lay one sleeve with upper edge under sleeve opening at edge of yoke and shoulders. Whip-stitch sleeve and shoulder together with blue yarn. Repeat for second sleeve. With appropriate yarn colors, sew sweater front to back at sides and sleeves. Weave in and tie off yarn ends. Using sewing thread and needle, securely sew buttons to back shoulders under buttonholes.~~~~~~~~~~~~~Booties to follow~~~~~~~~~~~~

Knitted Booties (make two)

TOP With blue yarn and size 3 needle, cast on 30 sts. Work in moss st for 3/4 inch. Cut blue yarn and join white yarn. With size 7 needle, work in st st for 6 rows, starting with a K row and ending with a P row.
EYELET rows K 1, YO, K 2 together, K to within the last 3 sts, K 2 tog, YO, K 1. P row.(These rows creat two eyelets at the back of bootie for strap to slip through.)
INSTEP K 11 with size 7 needle, drop but do not cut white yarn, change to size 3 needle and join blue yarn,
* work in moss st for 8 sts, turn. Repeat from * until you have worked 1 inch in moss st. Keeping in pattern, work 2 sts tog, work 4 sts, work last 2 sts tog. (Note: While working blue inste, 11 white sts remain on each size 7 needle.)
FOOT Following the 11 sts on size 7 right-hand needle, use white yarn to pick up 6 sts along right side of instep, K 6 sts at front of instep, pick up 6 sts along left side of instep, and K 11 sts remaining on other size 7 needle(40 sts). Work in st st for 7 rows, starting and ending with a P row.
BOTTOM shaping K 2 tog, K 15, K 2 tog three times, K 15, K 2 tog. P 16, P 3 tog, P 16. K 2 tog and bind of to within the last 2 sts, K 2 tog and finish binding off. Weave in and tie off yarn ends.
BOOTIE strap With blue yarn and size 3 needles, cast on 30 sts. P 1, K 1, YO, K 2 tog, continue in moss st to within last 4 sts, P 2 tog, YO, P 1, K 1. Work one more row in moss st. Bind off loosely in pattern. Weave in and tie off yarn ends.
Finishing With appropriate yarn colors and tapestry needle, weave together bottom and back of bootie. Insert booties strap through eyelets at back of bootie. With sewing needle and thread, sew one button to each side of inset top. Button strap to bootie.~~~~
