CUDDLE BOOTS
Toes stay toasty warm because these cuddle boots are made with 4 strands of yarn. Directions are given for small (medium and large sizes) in parentheses. Medium (about size 7) fits most women. Boots require 2 (2,4) ounces each of 2 colors in 4-ply yarn and number 15 standard knitting needles.

Abbreviations: K (knit), P (purl), tog (together), st (stitch), dec (decrease).
Gauge: 5 stitches = 2 inches, 3 rows = 1 inch
NOTE: This pattern could be made just as effectively by reversing directions and knitting where it calls for purling, and purling where it calls for knitting. This is a very easy pattern.

Directions Using 4 strands of yarn, 2 of each color, cast on 26 (29, 32) stitches.
Pattern Stitch:
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: P 10 (11, 12), k 1, p 4 (5, 6), k 1, p 10 (11, 12).
Repeat these two rows until 11 (13,15) rows have been completed, end with Row 1.
There will be 5 (6, 7) ridges on right side of slipper. Working in pattern st bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows-- 14 (17, 20) sts.
Work even in pattern st for 8 (12, 16) more rows-- 10 (12, 14) ridges on right side of work. Next row dec 3 sts (p 2 tog in each third of slipper) -- 11 (14,17) sts.
Continue to work in pattern for 6 more rows.
Dec. Row: Purl 2 tog across row.
Next Row: Purl. Fasten off.
Draw ends of yarn through remaining sts on needle. Pull tog and fasten. Using same yarn, sew top and front of slipper, then sew back slipper seam. Take care to match rows and sts.
Weave in yarn ends. Fold 12 (14, 16) 14-inch strands of yarn in half over another strand of yarn. Tie single strand to secure tassel. Wrap yarn for 1/2 inch below tie. Sew top of tassel to back of boot and backstitch wrapping invisible to slipper to secure.

Row 13: (On inside) Bind off stitches by Slip one stitch as to knit, Knit 1, pass slip st over knitted stitch; work pattern to within 2 sts, K 2 tog.
There should be 29 sts total left on needle. End with K 9, P 1, K 9, P 1, K 9.

Repeat P 1, K 1 over 9 sts, K 11, P 1, K 1 to end of row for 24 more rows (or desired length of sole).
Leaving stitches still on needle, leave a length of yarn 10 inches long and cut from skein. Now with a large eye Tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the needle eye. Now insert into the last stitch on the knitting needle and repeat this till all the stitches on the knitting needle have been threaded. You should have a "circle" made by the yarn. Now draw this up tightly (like closing a drawstring bag). Secure a few stitches where they meet, and next tightly sew together the seams. Add a pom-pom to the toe or place where the section of p, k. p, k, started.

How to make a small pom-pom:
Using a dinner fork, begin wrapping a single strand of yarn around the prongs of the dinner fork. Wrap until it looks like a ball, then cut yarn and with the end that was attached to the ball you just wound insert it through the center prong opening of the fork and wrap the ball in this direction two or three times pulling very tightly, secure with knotting it two times. Leave a 4 or 5 inch yarn tail as it will later be used to secure pom-pom to slipper. Next slip the wrapped yarn off of the fork. With sharp scissors, cut the fold loops down the center, fluff with your fingers, trim the pom-pom wherever so it looks round. Next using the yarn tail, thread into the eye of a large tapestry needle and sew pom-pom unto slipper/bootie.
If you want a larger pom-pom, cut a strip of cardboard the width of the pom-pom you desire, and wrap your yarn around this for the desired fullness you want. Secure the center with two or three wraps of yarn, pull tightly together and knot 2 or 3 times. Cut folded loops, fluff out, trim into nice ball shape, sew onto slipper/bootie.
