Augusta Preston Marrs b. 1842 Cabell Co. Va. Son of Joseph Marrs and Nacy Preston, son of James Marrs and Sarah Sally Workman, son of Henry "Big Creek" Marrs and Elizabeth Maxwell, son of Samuel Marrs and Francina Bradshaw, son of William Erskine Marrs.

FROM THE PENSION PAPERS OF AUGUSTA P. MARRS US ARCHIVES WASHINGTON DC:

5 AUGUST 1890 ELIZABETH J. MARRS AGED 47 A RESIDENT OF THE TOWN Of KIRBERVILLE TANEY CO. MISSOURI, APPLIES FOR A PENSION.

12 SEPTEMBER 1890 A.P. MARRS AGED 47 A RESIDENT OF SHERIDAN WEST VIRGINIA

COUNTY OF LINCOLN APPLIES FOR INVALID PENSION. HE STATES WOUND IN THE HAND.. WHICH DISQUALIFIES HIM FROM PERFORMING FULL LABOR WHEN AT WORK HIS HAND PAINS HIM VERY BAD AND CAUSES THE LOSS OF SLEEP.

A FEW MONTHS LATER FROM CABELL CO WVA. HE SENDS AFFADAVIT TO PROVE HE IS THE ONE APPLYING.

6 JUNE 1892 ELIZABETH J. WIDOW OF AUGUSTUS P. MARRS NOW OF ARNOLD, CUSTER CO NE APPLIES AGAIN FOR A PENSION.

" MY HUSBAND AUGUSTA P MARRS LEFT HIS HOME IN KIRBEYVILLE TANEY CO MO. 2/22/1885 WITH HIS TEAM AND WAGON TO GO TO MOUNTAIN GROVE MO. FOR A LOAD OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS FOR A FAMILY THAT HAD MOVED INTO KIRBEYVILLE .

WHEN ABOUT 40 MILES FROM HIS HOME WE BELIEVE HE WAS WAYLAID BY A BAND OF ROBBERS AND KILLED AND HIS TEAM AND WAGON AND EFFECTS STOLEN AS THAT WAS THE LAST PLACE HE WAS SEEN. HE NEVER ARRIVED AT MOUNTAIN GROOVE.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LEARN OF HIS WHEREABOUTS "DEAD OR ALIVE" EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN USED TO FIND HIM. OUR MARRAIGE RELATIONS HAD ALWAYS BEEN AND WAS HAPPY NOTHING TO MAR OUR HAPPINESS AS I KNOW AND FIRMLY BELIEVE IF HE WAS ALIVE HE WOULD BE HOME. OUR KNOWLEDGE IS BASED ON FACTS SURROUNDING THE CASE, OUR RELATIONSHIP TOGEATHER, HIS OWNING A FARM AND FARMING IT, HIS HELPING A NEIGHBOR BY GOING FOR HIS GOODS. THE FAITH I HAVE IN HIS RETURN IF ALIVE , ON THE ROBBERS THAT INFECT THAT COUNTRY."

30 MAY 1890 YOUNG, SCIOTO COUNTY OHIO. AUGUSTUS P. MARRS AGED 70 IS APPLYING FOR HIS PENSION. IT SAYS HE WAS BORN IN CABELL CO VA. IN 1842. IT ALSO SAYS HE LIVED IN GRUNDY CO MO. FOUR YEARS TANEY CO MO SIX YEARS, KANSAS FOUR YEARS, DALLAS COUNTY TEXAS SEVEN YEARS, AND WEST VIRGINIA 20 YEARS. SERVED IN CO D 10TH REG. KY. CAV. AND CO H 54 KY INF. YEARS 1862-1865.

RECORDS SHOW THE TIMES HE WAS ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE AND WHEN HE DESERTED ON 2/12/1865.

IT LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE HE DESERTED AGAIN IN 1885. IF HE DID NOT DESERT HIS

FAMILY SOMEONE DID A VERY GOOD JOB OF STEALING HIS IDENTITY. IT ALSO APPEARS FROM THESE DOCUMENTS THAT TANEY CO MO DECLARED HIM DEAD ON 2/25/1890.
