Alone

Dedicated to my Beloved Husband

Night is falling o'er the blue Pacific.
Orange blossoms scent the evening breeze.
Stars begin to twinkle through the darkness.
Mocking birds are calling from the trees.
City lights are gleaming bright with color.
People throng the streets so straight and wide.
I alone am left out of the picture.
I'm alone this lovely eventide.

I am all alone without you, darling;
All alone though others may be near;
All alone until you come to meet me.
I'll always be alone when you're not here.
"Alone, alone, alone," the birds are calling.
"Alone, alone," the waves reply.
"Alone," the flowers echo with their fragrance.
The stars are even lonely in the sky.

I'm all alone because you are not with me.
A million others cannot take your place.
If all the world of people were around me,
I'd be all alone without your loving face.
I'm all alone this lovely summer evening.
The world is passing by me like a stream.
I'm all alone each day and evening, darling,
But never am I alone when in my dreams.
