Thou untamed thing that rushes wild today,
How long 'til man bids thy water stay;
Thou river, who today can but destroy,
To man, God's offspring, shall become a toy.
Yes, man with intellect and skillful hand
Shall make thy mighty waters bless this land.
This great, wide desert parching in the sun
Will blossom as the rose in the days to come
When man with stell shall harness thy wild tide
And scatter forth thy waters far and wide.
This land, where now but snakes and lizards roam,
Shall soon become man's garden spot home.
Great man, great minds; our government has sent
Upon this mighty mission, strong intent.
The people of the west now welcome you
With heart and soul, and pledge their courage true
That they this mission all may help fulfill
To bound this roaring river to man's will!
Let's build the "Boulder Dam" and build it well
That coming generations yet may tell
How people full of vision, strong and brave,
Helped this waste country to reclaim and save;
Made this great river's rushing, flooding tide
Spread wealth and power and progress far and wide.
Hats off today! Three cheers for 'Boulder Dam;'
For President Hoover; for Dear Uncle Sam!
For Mr. Mead, for Wilbur and the rest!
Let's make them feel the Spirit of the West!
Roll up your sleeves, let's back them everyone.
The task of all the Ages has begun!
This surging river will be harnessed fast
With stone and steel that will forever last;
And these great minds, directed by God's hand
Shall spread a blessing o'er this western land.
Throughout the world men will be heard to say
"On to the west! Pride of the U.S.A."
