Most women are fond of rare diamonds And of other jewels so fine. But there's not a woman in all the world With lovelier jewels than mine. I have gathered my beautiful jewels As I've traveled along life's highway, And I'm proud as the queen of a kingdom Of the jewels that I have today. |
Then we added another for Phoebe, Another red garnet so bright To add to it's brilliance and beauty, Oh, my crown is a wonderful sight. Then to make my fair crown still more precious, We added another pearl fine, For beautiful curly haired Melvin, This little blonde darling of mine. |
I have gathered a dozen rare jewels To shine in my crown of pure gold. I treasure each one as I get it, I'll still have them all when I'm old. For my jewels are twelve lovely children, Eight sweet girls and four dear boys, And no matter what trials they bring me, They too bring me life's greatest joys. |
Now another choice pearl we have added. Baby Norman was too born in June. This dear little mite of a brother Has finished my crown so soon. More precious than millionaires treasures, More dear than a queen's diadem, This crown that we made through my suffering I'd not trade with either of them. |
Each child represents a rare jewel That forever will shine in my crown Through life and throughout the hereafter When all other jewels are gone. For no one can claim these great treasures That I've laid up in Heaven above And thieves cannot break through and steal them, For I bought them with tears and with love. |
There are two other jewels I treasure As lovely as ever were seen, An amethyst rare and a ruby For Viola fair, and Irene. These jewels add brilliance and luster. They are linked, not by birth, but by love. Kept by me, for a Mother who's waiting In heavenly mansions above. |
My crown sparkles bright with these jewels And first is an agate so rare, For Hazel was born late in August; My first lovely daughter so fair. Next Helen was born in September And added a sapphire so blue, When June brought me lovely Ramona. A pearl, dearest girl, gleams for you. |
There is yet a strong link to be added To make my bright crown all complete. A beautiful brilliant red blood-stone That binds all together so neat. For the blood-stone of March is for Father Whose love clasps together the rest And holds them securely forever, The strongest, the brightest, the best. |
Then a brilliant red garnet we added. It sparkles for lovely Marie. For in January so chilly This sweet little girl came to me. Next a lovely blue turquoise for Gertrude. She came with the bright Christmas cheer. Then we added another fine sapphire For September brought Olive Ruth dear. |
There are many women who's jewels In motherhood's crown ne'er will shine, And I feel, Oh, such great pity for them. I wonder if they envy mine. |
Then we put in another red garnet For Nina, so careful and neat. Then an amethyst sparkling for Stanley, Our first little son so sweet. Then another red garnet for Leon, A child full of laughter and joy. He also came with the New Year; Our second fine little boy. |
