Love's Harbor

      Dear Tom,

Shrink not, dear heart, because the way is hard,
And still a rugged path lays straight ahead.
We traveled this road of our own accord.
We still have life, and hope is not yet dead.
How could we two have seen the thorns that lay
Beneath our feet upon an untried road?
We could not tell how dark would be the way,
Nor yet how heavy would become our load.

We only knew our love was strong and true,
And we were willing to start out together,
To travel through life's journey, me and you,
Through rain and shine and every kind of weather.
We did not hope to have it always cheery.
We knew the way was long and hard and steep,
And that some days would be both dark and dreary,
And we would long to rest and go to sleep.

Cheer up, dear heart, our journey is not over.
We still have love to guide us on life's way,
And we will surely find a four leaf clover
And all our cares will vanish some bright day.
For when two  hearts are bound by love forever,
No storm can wreck the boat on which we sail,
And they will reach love's harbor safe together,
And all life's storms will be of no avail.

      Mary
