How could I know I had no right to ask
A fullness of the love I knew was mine?
And though I found that I must wait and wait
I knew my love could stand the test of time.
I knew there was no barrier strong enough
To check the course of love as great as mine
And though for ages I might have to wait
I knew I'd be with you in God's own time.
You'll never know the loneliness I felt
Because another claimed a share of you
Nor will you know the many times I knelt
And asked of God if my love could be true.
To know another shared your life and love
Was almost more than my heart could bear
And yet my tortured soul just had to wait
'Til God saw fit to grant my daily prayer.
No love like ours could live and be apart.
No barrier could ever cut in twain
A love that was ordained before the start
Of life on earth. It is an endless chain.
No matter what we did before we met,
No matter what the future may unfold,
Our love survives whatever may be yet.
'Tis ours eternally to have and hold.
