A Prayer For Memorial Day

The first part of this poem is missing

Not 'til the foe of liberty is crushed
And earth and sea is made a sealer of peace.

Verse Four

Oh Father, God, we ask Thee in His name
Who hung on Calvary's cross that man might live
To accept from our hearts these prayers sincere
And to thee all our praise and honor give.
Oh God, who is the friend of righteousness
Be with our boys and noble allies, brave,
And every effort for our cause do bless
And hallow with thy love each soldier's grave.

Verse Five

Oh, mothers, sisters, sweethearts, dry your tears.
God will be with our allied troops tonight
And with his mighty arm will give them strength
'Til righteousness shall triumph over might.
But if they give their lives in freedom's cause
And to our aching hearts they come no more,
We'll know they helped make broader, better laws
When peace shall be proclaimed from shore to shore.

Verse Six

Oh nations far, lift up your stricken heads.
A shining gleam breaks through the darkened way.
We know behind life's darkest, lowest cloud
There beams the brighter shining light of day.
when for the righteous cause have given our all,
Our men, our men's, our hearts, our very best,
A tender consolation comforts us
And God who knoweth all will do the rest.
