Thanksgiving Day 1932

      For the glorious autumn, Father,
      For the fruits and fields of grain,
      We raise our hearts in gratitude
      For the harvest once again.
      What though the nation is troubled
      And people are sore afraid,
      Our faith in thee is doubled.
      For thy help we humbly pray.

      We pray that seed-time and harvest
      May continue just the same;
      For the use of thy humble children
      But not for graft and gain.
      That the things you give in plenty
      So your children may be fed;
      That never more in this fair land
      May children cry for bread.

      So, Father, on this Thanksgiving
      We raise our hearts to thee,
      And ask that thou, in thy mercy,
      May set thy people free;
      Free from the bonds of oppression
      Free from hunger and cold
      That the end of this awful depression
      May come to the young and the old.

      Hasten the time, dear Father,
      When Jesus shall come here to reign;
      When there will be no slaves, no masters,
      But all will receive just the same
      Justice and mercy and goodness,
      Plenty and peace and love.
      This is the blessing we pray for.
      Send it to us from above.
