This is a brief report on the reunion in Sandy Utah, August 98 |
The day dawned "bright and clear" -a perfect day for the Canova Family Reunion. President David Canova had reserved part of the Sandy Park and pavillion for this occasion. People came from far and near, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and of course "kissin' cousins." There was a lot of that going on! Cousin Bert Canova came from Florida and his daughter Joyce Seidler from Washington State, Margaret and Hank Boss and Nina Klein and her grandchildren arrived from California. Mike and Mary Jensen from Colorado and many others followed. Folks gathered from around the planet, just for the opportunity to say "howdy cousin" and to welcome the new "small citizens" that had joined the group since our last get together. also some young men and young ladies who were adopted into the family by way of marriage. What a great group of people! Of course there was the matter of eating that always seems to rate high on the priority list. Along with all the lip smacking food that had arrived with the families, it was decided to purchase some "finger lickin' good" Kentucky Fried Chicken. A committee was chosen to deal with this challenge and, as with most committees, things almost got out of hand. All the "BIG" decisions... how much to buy, extra crispy, old fashioned or a mixture of both, which parts the committee would accept, or just take "pot luck" on what was werved. As William Shakespeare said so long ago, "All's well that ends well" or something like that. So it was with dinner! We had a treasure sale. Everyone was asked to bring something of value and to donate it to help fatten the organization bank account. This was a profitable and fun activity. The newly elected officers decided to purchase a reunion camera and since Nancy Miller is a professional photographer, she would take care of teh camera and take pictures at the futgure reunions to build a "Family Album." So... who is Nancy Miller? Well, she is the daughter of Trudy Canova Maloy who is one of the many daughters of Tom and Mary Canova. If you missed the Sandy reunion, don't you dare miss the next one coming on Thanksgiving weekend of November 2000. With all the hype about Y2K, the officers feel that by the time of the reunion everything will either be straightened out and operating smoothly or else it will be complete chaos. Either way, we can all get together just for the fun of it. Everyone can have a nice Thanksgiving dinner with their families and then we can all gather in Hesperia California for a Friday and Saturday family reunion. The reunion committee will furnish the turkey and the main parts of the meal. We'll keep you posted as we go along! Please let us know of any births, marriages, missionaries, service people and any special happenings (promotions, graduations, etc., that would be of interest to all. This information will be sent out with our next newsletter, along with a complete mailing list of all the members addresses and e-mail addresses that we can find. Our president, Nina Klein was under the weather at the reunion which has resulted in surgery to her hand and arm. Grant and I have both been ill for several weeks, thus the delay in getting out the newsletter sooner. All is well now and we're all back on the ball. We need a catchy name for the newsletter. It's worth $20.00 to the family that comes up with a winning name. Put on your thinking cap and submit y our thoughts and the winning family will be announced with our last letter just prior to the next reunion. This should be fun. Get the kids to drop us a line on a post card or even e-mail your submissions to us at
