At age 18 he entered the service as a Volunteer to fight in the American Revolution. . He served 3 three month terms as a private. Left Mecklinberg County North Carolina when he was 28 years old and moved to Newberry District South Carolina were he remained for the next twenty years when he moved to Buncombe Co., North Carolina where he would later die.

Being of good health and sound mind and memory. First I order that all my lawful debts be paid and fully discharged. I will and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Ann and well beloved son Andrew 100 acres of land whereon I now live and with all my household furniture and at the death of my beloved wife the said land and furniture shall be the only sole property of my son Andrew Hipp. I will and bequeath unto my well beloved son Stephen Hipp the sum of five sgillings; I will and bequeath unto my well beloved sons, John, George, Joseph, and Jacob Hipp all remaining part of my land to be equally divided between them at their discretion. That each of my said sons John, George, Joseph, and Jacob at my death shall pay or cause to be paid unto my well beloved son Valentine Hipp the sum of 5 pounds each

It is believed that Stephen Hipp came to America from the German area known as the Lower, or Bavarian, Palatine of Western Germany. The name Palatinate points to two historically different districts and former states in Germany. While one is found in southeastern Germany, the other is in southwestern Germany. We call the latter the Lower Palatinate. This part of the Palatinate is situated between Luxembourg and the Rhine River, and France in the southwest. Because of its relationship with the Rhine river, we also call it the Rheinisch (Rhenish) Palatinate. Until 1918 it was connected through the Wittelsbach line of royalties to Bavaria. In 1946 it became a district of the modern state of Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate). It now covers an area of 19,800 sq. km, or 7,643 sq. miles. Its capital is Mainz.
