In 1792 the part of Nelson County in which the Laytons were living was divided to form Washington County where thet were listed in the 1800 census along with his father John Sr. and brothers John Jr., Barny and Ignatius.
Land owned by Joseph Layton, at Ste Genevieve, was conveyed 10-4-1823 by Wilfred Layton to John Baptist Layton.
