Christopher lived with Edward Bennett when he first came to VA. Edward Bennett was called "The Merchant of London," and he had an important part in the early history of the new Colony of Virginia. He established the first permanent plantation, called "Bennett's Welcome," in Virginia in 1622 and he and his family, at various times, were responsible for the importation of nearly 800 immigrants. He was the owner of a fleet of vesels which carried new immigrants to the colony and tobacco to England. He was elected a free member of the London company, which was responsible for founding and populating the Virginia Colony, and on 2 may 1621 was elected its Auditor. He came to Virginia to live permanently after the death of his brother, Richard, in 1626. His plantation was then called "Warrosquoake", after a tribe of natives who also lived in what became Isle of Wight County. In "The Muster of the Inhabitants at Wariscoyack Taken the 7th of Febr 1624" Christopher Reynolds is listed as arriving in Virginia in the John & Francis in 1622. He is also listed in the census, 1623 at Warwick Squeake (Warisquoacke, later Isle of Wight county) and in the muster there, 7 February 1624, he heads the list of Mr. Edward Bennett's men. At Court held at James City, 13 March 1625, "Crhistopher Reighnalls (Reynolds) sworne and examined sayeth that he did see and read Peter Collins indentures and that by the indenture he was bound to serve Mr. Bennett four years."From the above it would appear that Christopher had come to Virginia as one of the head men on the Bennett plantation. Shortly he became a land owner in his own right: "Christopher Reynolds, 450 acs. Warrisquick Co., 15 Sept. 1636. Bounded with a back creek running Ewd. behind the pagan shore some 3 mi. upwards, the land lying on the S. side of the Cr. & an old Indian field belonging to the land, also running into the woods S.W. & lying on the main Cr. N.E. Trans: 9 servants*."
Christopher Reynolds was born 1611 in Gravesend, England, and died 1654 in Isle of Wright Co., Virginia. He married Elizabeth Matthews, daughter of Anthony Matthews. She was born 1615 in England, and died 1658 in Isle of Wright Co., Virginia. Christopher was the son of George Reynolds and Thomasyn Church.
