In 1644 one William THORN was paid 320 lbs of tobacco
for some service to Westmoreland County. Mr. Fawker paid it to a Mr.
Watson to be delivered to THORN.
In 1653 and again in 1656, Gloucester Co., Ralph Greene rec'd hr
land adj. Col. Richard Lee and William Thorn. William THORN is
mentioned several times as the "assignee" of Col. LEE. William THORN's
land is mentioned in some of Col. Lee's deeds. It was on the North side
of the York River at the head of dogwood branch.
John Corbett of Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, VA received
headright land at the head of Ducking Pond Creek adj. Isaac, Plumer,
Ralph Armstead, Thomas Dyer for the transportation of Jon Mayo, Richard
Ball, Wm. Martin, Jon Wayne, Thomas THORNE, Christopher Wynn, William
Tyton, Jon Copeland. 20 Apr 1684, Book 7, pg 354.
On 5 Nov 1706, Gerrard Lynch "puts in his place Thomas THORN, his
attorney in Richmond County to act for me in all matters for and against
me in said court and for so doing this shall be his warrant.
At a court held 2 Dec 1714, John Heaford and Benjamin Hinds were
bound over to this court by John Taylor, Gentlemen, one of His Majesties
Justices of the Peace for Richmond County on suspicion of hog stealing.
George Gaydon posted bail for Heaford and Thomas THORN for Hinds.
In 1712 Lt. Col. Samuel Peachy, a Justice of Richmond County left
legacies to nieces and nephews children of Nathaniel Peachy, Will. and
Ann Delamere and John and Jane Wildman. Grandson, Samuel Peachy. Then
he left legacies to (no relationships stated) Col. Willoughby Allerton,
Capt. Daniel McCarty, Daniel Dobbins, Thomas Beale, Katherine Dobbins,
James Biddlecombe, Robin Hood [honest!], William Dobbins, Charles
Dobbins, Thomas THORN, Elizabeth Lynch daughter of Steven and Elizabeth
Lynch and Thomas Burly.
On 1 Nov 1716, in Richmond County, Thomas THORN witnessed a Power of
Attorney from Edmund Jennings (acting as agent for Lady Fairfax) to
George Eskridge of Westmoreland County to receive quit rents, etc.
Notes for Jane Merryman:
On 1 Nov 1720 she made a deed of gift to her children Merryman Thorn and Susannah Thorn of personal property. Merryman was to receive his property as age 21 and Susannah when she was 18. Henry was not mentioned and may have died in childhood.
