In the name of God Amen
I James W. Chastain of said state and county, being of advanced age, and knowing that I must soon depart this life, deem it right and proper, as respects myself and family, to make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me, hereby revoking all others, do make this my last Will and Testament.

Item 1. i desire and request that my body be buried in a descent and Christian like manner.

Item 2. I desire and request that my beloved wife Elizabeth Chastain have and control all my property both real and personal during her natural life, and at her death to be equally divided between all my heirs, to wit--Dicy Plemmons formerly Dicy Chastain, Jonathan F. Chastain, Joel B. Chastain, Nancy Bottoms formerly Nancy Chastain, Martha A. Woods formerly Martha A. Chastain and Mary L. Chastain.

Item 3. I further desire and request that my beloved wife Elizabeth Chastain be my executrix, and my son Jonathan F. Chastain be my executor to this my last will and Testament. I desire that my daughter, Mary L. Chastain to be made equal with the rest of my heirs, so far as what property I have already distributed to the rest of my heirs. Then the remainder of my property to be disposed of as above stated.

Court of Ordinary. October Term 1882. And now in open court come S.A. Holbrook, W.A. McBrayer and J.L. Red, who being sworn, say that they saw James W. Chastain, deceased, sign and publish the foregoing Will dated 24th May 1881 is his last will and testament while of sound and disposing mind, that they witnessed the same for him, at his request, and in his presence that the same was executed voluntarily, on the day it purports to have been executed.
