Puffkin
Ponderings!
for October, 1999
brought to you by www.puffkinfriends.com
Four New Puffkins for Fall include Roswell the alien, Autumn the pheasant, Gertie the Guinea pig and Buzz the bee!
One of the most famous stories in 'UFO history' is that in July of 1947 an alien craft crashed in the New Mexico desert near the city of Roswell and that civilians arriving at the scene witnessed alien bodies. When the military arrived they captured the craft and aliens and initiated a massive cover-up. Roswell's poem and birthdate of 7/4/47 commemorates that special event.
The November issue of "Beans! and Bears"
magazine gives the results of their "Ideal Collection" survey. They had several
categories. One category was called "Other Beanbag Collectibles" and it was
retailers who were surveyed. The results were based on sales and customer inquiries.
Puffkins "Snowball the white tiger series" made the list coming in at #5.
Even the associate editor got in on the fun with her own "ideal collection"
list. Puffkins "Happy" the smiley face showed up at #6 on her personal
scorecard.
All about collectible Puffkin Magnets!
January 1st, 1999 magnets that matched their Puffkin big brothers and sisters debuted. Except for the magnet sewn into their backs they are exact miniature replicas of their full-size Puffkin counterparts. The magnets are extremely powerful and even with the felt-type material covering them they can hold quite a few papers on your refrigerator. These cuties have a flat tag attached (just like the key rings) that is shaped to match the outline of the logo and heart except the letters in "Puffkins" are purple. Under the word "Puffkins" it says 'Collectible Magnets'. On the back of the tag is the name, birthday, UPC code and all the warnings, etc. When the full-size Puffkin retires, so does the matching Puffkin Key Ring and Puffkin Magnet. Magnets have their own collectors list that are seperate from the full size Puffkin collector list. Not all Puffkins have matching magnets. Shaggs was never made into a magnet because his long hair got in the way of the magnet. Omar was made into a magnet but shortly thereafter was discontinued for the same reason. The 18 Limited Edition Easter, Halloween and Christmas styles do not have matching magnets. Neither do 18 others: Dinky, Drake and Pickles, Shaggs, Jules, Armour, Honey, Fetch, Shadow, Toby, Hugs & Kisses, Patrick & Patty, Mystic, Patriot, Snowball and Spike. All told there are 55 current magnets and 16 retired styles as of October, 1999. Of the retired styles, Omar seems the most valuable since he was discontinued so quickly. Danny should also be very collectible since he was not on the market very long before being retired. The current Cosmo magnet does not have a special tag, nor is there any benefit to St. Jude charity for the sales of the Cosmo magnet like there is for the full size Cosmo.
