Puffkin Tag Protector Comparison
There is one thing you'll always get with this web page - that's my opinion! And, I always seem to have one - so here is MY OPINION in regards to the Puffkin Swing Tag Protectors that I have found on the market. I know there must be others, but I haven't found a source for them yet. If you know of another brand, please e-mail me!
Swibcotm brand: very tight fit - you can actually damage the tag trying to push it in! If you use these, be sure to open them with your finger and sort of "stretch" it a little first. They are very soft and supple. There is no gusset for the swift attacher's plastic end so that can put a dent mark on your tag. An excellent value for the price! Many, if not most online Puffkin Retailers have the Swibcotm brand for sale. They come in a package of 24 for @$2.50 a package.
Protect-A-Tagtm: loose fit - not as supple as the Swibco brand. Can actually slip off the tag easily. Looks nice, but same problem as Swibco in that there is no gusset for the plastic end of the swift attachment so it can dent the tag. The interesting thing about this style is that if you do it "just right" the Puffkin Keychain tags fit in it. To purchase either the Clam Shell (see below) or Protect-A-Tagtm style tag protectors, I would suggest The Limited Connection as a good source.
Clamshell Type: Nice look, seems big on the outside, sometimes are just a bit small on the inside so you need to bend the tag a bit to get it to fit. The well is deep enough that the swift attachment does not have pressure against it thereby denting the tag. There is a thumb indention where you can open the protector, but it isn't super easy.To purchase either the Clam Shell or Protect-A-Tagtm (see above) style tag protectors, I would suggest The Limited Connection as a good source.
Soft Locket tm: a locket style that has a much smaller edge than the larger Clamshell lockets. It looks nice - once again, like the Clamshell type, the "well" that the tag goes in is too small once in awhile and you have to "bend" the tag a bit to make it fit. These were rated the best "medium weight" tag protector by Beans! magazine. To purchase these, I would suggest, Case Enclosed.
- This is a sketch of the BTPtm protector.
BTPtm Protector: Much like the clamshell type but has the "patented" raised area for the connector so it doesn't dent the tag. It is made of archival plastic and is acid and oil free.To purchase these, go to BTP-tags.com.
Book Style does not seem to be available anymore. If you know of a retailer who still carries it, please send me an e-mail.
If you know of other brands of tag protection, or other sources, please e-mail me! Thanks!
