1923. The international union for children’s protection develops and approves the Declaration of Children’s Rights. The declaration, consisting of five main principles for protection of children and their well-being is widely known under the Geneva Convention.

1924. Fifth Assembly of the League of Nations in Geneva accepts the Geneva declaration and calls for members to be guided by its principles.

1948. The creation of the United Nations Organization is accepts an extended version of the Declaration.

1959. On November 20 the UN General Assembly distributes the text of the Declaration of Children’s Rights.

1978. The government of Poland holds a discussion on the first draft of the Convention about children’s rights.

1979. International Year of the Child. The UN commission taking initiative from the Polish project, creates a special workgroup for analysis and development of the final project of the Convention.

1983. A number of government agencies form SPECIAL NGO groups to maximize contribution to the UN workgroup activity and for the first time in many years renders unprecedented influence on the course of preparation for the Convention.

1989. The workgroup presents to the Commission the rights of people as the final project of the Convention. November 20, exactly thirty years after acceptance of the Declaration 1959, the General Assembly UN accepts the Convention on Children’s Rights.

1990. September 2 the Convention goes into effect.
