Tigger
Odie was with us for a week when we decided she
needed a companion for those times her humans had to be away at
work. That Saturday while Odie and I
played on the sofa, we heard the front door open (OH NO, DEJA VU) in
came Mr. Animal Expert with the ugliest kitten you've ever seen
in your life (there's no such thing as an ugly kitten you say, HA!). I literally
gasped when I saw her, "Good Grief, Not Again!" She was
a spindly, skinny, raggedy little tiger stripe who was deposited
at the SPCA Shelter after she was found foaming at the mouth
lying on a Denver street. They kept her for a week (no rabies, it
was just hot outside) and then gave her the dubious honor of
becoming "Pet of the Week". 12:00 noon was her deadline (literally) that Saturday. In walks new husband at 11:55.
Out walks new husband at 12:05 with the "spider" kitty.
Odie was thrilled. She spent the next year dragging spider kitty
around by the neck and sitting on her (to hide her, I think),
when we yelled at her to stop dragging the kitty. Of course, Tigger filled out
(she's downright plump now and weighs quite a bit more than Odie) and became the sweetest kitty around. She lives
to be hugged and petted and it is a rare occasion when Tigger is not
purring, no matter what is happening around her. She finds refuge
on my lap, scrunched in next to Odie (who allows
only Tigger this honor). Tigger is 13 now, too, and over the past few years has
seem many new (doggy) additions to the household. She is not
fazed in the least. She calmly walks through the usual chaos at
her own pace, oblivious to the annoying dogs while they just look
on in confusion. Hey, after all, SHE was "Pet of the Week!"
11/26/98 My dear old Tigger is sick now. Out of nowhere
she got a little hoarse sounding, so Wed I took her into the vet.
Figured it was just a cold or upper respiratory infection or
something. She's got a problem with her trachea, possible upper
resp infection and possible renal failure. (Low temp,
dehydrated). We took bloodwork and I should see the results
tomorrow. Poor Tigger is going on 14 and has never been sick a
day in her life. She goes from perfectly ok to really sick
overnight. Keep your candles lit for Tigger, she's my sweetheart,
purrs constantly, always cuddles, never gets bothered by the dogs
or anything, is always the happiest kitty you've ever seen. Poor
little girl......
