This Week's Happening's!

13 January 1999

Well, as all can tell by the lack of an emergency phone call, we made it to Spain! It was rough going at first... not the flights, they were ok, but we got here, and noone told us anything, so we had to sit here, and not be able to go down to the Navy base until the following Monday because we did not have a Spanish ID card to get on that base! Of course, with the holiday, nothing was open here to get it! This place has the "Sleepy Hollow" attitude, and it is quite unnerving! We will have to learn more on how to slow down our expectations. The sad part is, we aren't talking about the Spanish, I am talking about the personell on base itself, the G.I.'s!!! Makes you want to "smack-em"!!!! Things are open on base here on Mon, Wed and Friday... if anything was to be open on Tue or Thurs, it would probably cause a riot! I am talking about places like the club, library, gift shop, and stuff like that, not that there is alot of stuff like that here.... Oh well.

We got a house to rent, and we move in on Monday! It is a 4 bedroom, with a bath in each room, has a den with a door for seclusion and has a fireplace in it! A large dining room and a huge kitchen. There is an under ground garage, well not completely underground, it is 1/2 story underground, so the living area of the house is 1/2 story above ground. The garage is actually more like a drive in basement! It even has a full bath down there too! The entire grounds are fenced with a drive through gate, and a walk through gate. A large front porch with 10' wide steps leading up to it, screen doors, a good sized patio with a screen door, and a screen fence before the back steps. The front "yard" is all cement, and whenever it "cures" then the tiles will be put in. I wonder how long that will be, the house is at least 2 years old, but I asked him today, and he says not yet. The tile area wraps around to the back of the house where there is another small patio area on both sides of the back steps. There is an outdoor shower so that you can wash off the chlorine from .... you guessed it, the POOL! There is a wall (3 foot) going across the yard to keep kids out, and then a pool. Grass abounds in the back, and there are orange trees, and a lemon tree and who know's what else!

The girls are liking school, and SO glad to be back in it! They are such the good travelers, and we are so proud of them! Living out of suitcases since 18 October, and not a worse for wear, or a complaint out of them. They have their buddies, and can't wait to move into the house! Chelsea is looking like a prize fighter, she ran, full tilt into the monkey bars the other day, and has a black eye, with swelling and a cut on the eyebrow. No stitches needed, and she is fine. Caroline is playing and being herself, which we all know can be trying sometimes, but she has been great!

Just wanted to say once more, Thank You to all that we either got to visit, call, live with, stay with and have fun with, Thank You all for a wonderfull vacation, and a great "pit-stop" while we tromped from one side of the world to the other!
