Well, let's see... how to begin. I was born, ...nah, even I can't remember that, it was so long ago.
I am Mom and the manager of our little homestead. You know, the person who knows where everything is; the one that does the cooking and cleaning; the one that plays doctor when someone's sick; the accountant when the bills are due; landscaper in the summer; supervisor of snow removal in the winter; entertainment coordinator when everyone's bored; and many other jobs in between. If you've never been a Mom, you'd never understand. If you are one, then enough said.
As you know from reading our homepage, we are a military family. We have roots, but they are short. Just enough to plant for a while, then dig up for replanting somewhere else. It's a life we've chosen and embrace most days. Sometimes, we wonder what it would be like to live in the same house for more than three years, the we look around and see where we've been, what we've seen, the people we've met, and we know we wouldn't give it up for anything (short of a mega-large winning lottery ticket). One day, it will be time for us to retire and we'll look back with joy and a bit of sadness. In the military, retirement is more of a right of passage that a career move. That day will come soon enough. For right now, it's just our life and we live it one day at a time, one base at a time.
As for my kids, they are my oxygen. They help me to see everything with new eyes. They can make time stand still with one, "hey Mom, LOOK!" I've been Mom long enough to have one of my flock leave. I guess that's a right of passage for both of us. But, for the time being, I still have some of those little people living in my house that teach me things like, "Mom, did you know cats like applesauce?" and the proper way to wear swim goggles when you peel an orange. It's my life and I love it!
