Dallas Skyline

skyline 1Looking north to the business district from Ferris Plaza along Wood Street. Bank of America building is the tall one on the left.

skyline 2This is looking east to the city centre from Commerce & Murray, at the east end of Deep Ellum. The towers are about 3/4 of a mile away.

skyscrapersLooking down North Harwood just north of Ross. There are skyscrapers and huge buildings as far as the eye can see, it's almost like being in a huge open tunnel.

reunion towerFrom the middle of the Kennedy Memorial Plaza, on Main, looking SW. The federal office building is to the left, the records office to the right.

Central Dallas Places

thanksgiving squareThanksgiving Square, Pacific & Ervay. A Christian site, rubbing it in like no-one's business. It's open to give thanks right round the clock, during regular office hours (9-5 weekdays.) Closed weekends and national holidays. Which, logically, means one can't give thanks on Thanksgiving.

stampedeThe Pioneer Plaza Cattle Drive, aka The Stampede; Griffin & Young. A 1994 construction, sculpted by Robert Summers, celebrating Texas' history of cattle. It's a full-scale replica in bronze, each of 40 animals weighs 1000 lbs. Dallas Convention Centre is in the middle distance, with the Reunion Tower poking its head above.

jfk memorialMain, looking S. This large block *is* the JFK memorial.

Other Sights

big carSadly, this wasn't the car I rode round in all fortnight. It's too big to fit into one picture.

weaver at the stampedeHolding on to one of the big horny things at the Stampede. [Pic taken by Heather.]

renaissance hotel From the Trinity Rail Express, looking out at the Stemmons Freeway, this tower caught my eye. It's shaped like an eye - narrow at the side, broad in the middle, all curves.

Actual People

Generally, I don't do people pictures, especially when the subjects are unwilling - this explains why there are no shots of my hosts. However, going to the airport to meet Cory was a great excuse to commit memories to CCD.

cory & weaver 1Taken without a flash. I have no idea what the people in the left of the picture thought they were looking at, but I know they were wrong (:

cory & weaver 2Taken with a flash, and without the people in the background. [These two snapped by Jaeda.]
