Nieske bars and alcohol are way overrated, aren't they? Yes. Can anyone tell me what exactly the fun part of going to a bar is? The music is crappy, so dancing - no. Well, as you may have gathered, I've moved over the weekend. Said goodbye to Codsall, my home for the past twenty-ish years, and hello to Leamington Spa. Geographically, it's a trip of 40 miles south-east. Emotionally, it's a lot further. Having a place of one's own is always a big step. In my case, the transition was somewhat forced by my work relocating, but that doesn't make the dislocation any more easy. There are many good things about this place: I get to sleep an extra hour, there's a cinema (two, in fact) within walking distance, stores that stay open almost right round the clock, and Hyde Park bandstand is two hours away, rather than three. But what I have here is a little too large for me. I'm rattling around inside a spacious one-bedroom flat. It's empty. It's devoid of life. I'm skulking in corners, as if someone else should be around. Those of you with long memories will recall that I had plans to set up flat this summer, in company. Some of you may know that I planned to quit work last weekend to do that. The more things change, the more they stay the same, somehow. But the bottom line is that I'm here, here is where I'll be staying. If anyone wants to send mail, write me and an address will be forthcoming. And if anyone has ideas on ways to turn a House into a Home, please let me know. | |
