Returns from the Beastie Boys - successful, but just too late in the month to make the main list - and Gloria - a flop - join eight relatively young acts. Though Silversun, Next and the computer-generated LCD are the only totally new acts on this list, none of the others has a hit making record of substance. Tina Arena hits with the theme from the latest Loud Webby musical, while boy bands Ultra and 911 confirm their places in the C list.

A clearout in the upper echelons means this looks like a Greatest Hits of the Year So Far list. Only Shania and the All Saints survive from last month.

Only the Mavericks and Coors can survive from last month, both with reduced scores. The leading track is a record that wasn't released to radio until June 1, and virtually stopped being played after England's exit from the World Cup on June 30. Natalie Imbruglia places her third different title on the top 10 this year, while Dario G provides the only other UK-based talent in the 10; competing with Ireland's B*Witched and Coors, Israel's Dana International, Canada's Shania Twain and three US acts.
