Bubblers

Qualification: No top 40 entry in this or any previous month.

1 SAY IT ONCE - Ultra   17-3
2 STRANGE GLUE - Catatonia International Velvet 16-2
3 MY OH MY - Aqua Aquarium 16-2
4 RENDEZVOUS '98 - Jean-Michel Jarre & Apollo 440   29-3
5 CAFE DEL MAR - Energy 54   24-2
6 I WASN'T BUILT TO GET UP - Supernaturals   25-2
7 COME WITH ME - Puff Daddy & Jimmy Page Godzilla OST 5-1
8 CUP OF LIFE - Ricky Martin   38-1
9 KISS THE GIRL - Peter Andre   22-2
10 PAVANNE - Wimbledon Choral Society   33-3

Some unusual names in this month's list. Catatonia have perhaps gone one single too far in releases from their album, while Aqua's fourth release falls drasticly short of what they would have expected. Puff and Jimmy's record only came out for the last five days of the month; it'll be much higher next month. Ultra - number 8 on this list last month - can curse their release dates for not giving them a second monthly 40 hit. Elsewhere, there are World Cup tie-ins from Jean-Michel Jarre and the Wimbledon Choral Society with domestic tv themes, and Rickie Martin with the official theme. Plus dance from Energy 54, ardently Brit-rock-lite from the Supernaturals and a Disney cover from the fast-fading Peter Andre.

Recurrent Hits

Qualification: Entry in at least two monthly Top 40s but not this month's.

After last month's clearout, Shania and the All Saints survive again - the latter group rise back up the listings. The Verve and the Spices also keep their presence intact. Robbie Williams makes his bow on this chart with his old single; the new one was released to radio on the 29th, while the Even Older one is 32 on the main chart. Similarly, Aqua, Shania Twain, the All Saints, Lighthouse Family and the Spice Girls have released one single since their entries here, while the Verve have put out three.

Personal Airplay

The ten records I've heard most this month...
Pos SINGLE act heard
1 SAVE TONIGHT Eagle-Eye Cherry 42
2 GHETTO SUPERSTAR Pras Michel, ODB, Mya 29
3 THE BOY IS MINE Brandy and Monica 26
C'EST LA VIE B*Witched
5 DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY Mavericks 25
6 TORN Natalie Imbruglia 21
7 VIVA FOREVER Spice Girls 20
8 BE CAREFUL Sparkle 19
9 DREAMS Coors 16
HOW DO I LIVE? Leann Rimes

Eagle-Eye Cherry hits the top with the biggest single month score we've had this year, while last month's number one got just 8 plays and ranks 24. The Mavericks and Coors make their third straight appearances on the listings, B*Witched and Brandy and Monica their second, while Natalie Imbruglia has now placed on all seven months of the year with three releases. The Spices, Pras and friends and Sparkle are all new, but young Leann comes back with a record that's not lived quite as long as Torn just yet. Yet...
