Welcome!

I appreciate your interest in Western Presbyterian Church. Our congregation is:

Deeply Rooted,

Growing in Christ …

Come, share the experience!

We are indeed deeply rooted. We enjoy a heritage of service to God and community dating back to our founding in 1797. Our current building was the first of the four churches constructed on the four corners of the main intersection of our village. Throughout our history we have served faithfully – providing shelter and safety to runaway slaves traveling the underground railroad, nurturing the Christian life of Winston Churchill’s grandparents and great-parents, and , most especially maintaining a strong, visible witness to the Gospel in this community. Our foundation is strong. We are encouraged by our rich heritage, sheltered in a beautiful building, and aided by endowments that graciously support our ministries.

We are growing in Christ. Education and Christian formation for all ages is secondary only to the worship of our Lord here at W.P.C. With Sunday School for children and adults, small group study opportunities for adults, youth groups for both middle school and high school students, youth choirs, and weekday preschool, we offer broad-ranging opportunities for all. Worship and service opportunities are every bit as formative as study and these opportunities abound here as well.

We are growing in Christ as more and more residents of Wayne County and the eastern edge of Monroe County are discovering what we have to offer. We are delighted to face the concerns of needing to provide more Sunday School meeting space and additional parking for Sunday morning. We are growing in numbers and we are grateful.

We invite you to come, share the experience! C.S. Lewis said that each Christian must search to find the church where "the pew fits." If you do not have a church home, I encourage you to visit us, worship with us, talk with us, and see if our pews fit you.

You are always welcome at Western Presbyterian Church.

Sincerely yours,

Steve Howarth
