Joseph Wohlgemuth arrived in Philadelphia PA from Rotterdam on "The Harle" with his two older brothers Abraham and Henry on Sept. 1, 1736. Abraham settled in Lancaster Co., PA and has many decendents living there still. Henry lived in Greencastle, Franklin Co., Pa but had no children.
Joseph settled in Frederick Co.(now Washington)Maryland. He acquired 520 acres of land and least mills-one is still standing. He married Catherine and had 6 children. After his death his two sons moved from Maryland. Young Joseph moved to Ohio and David moved south to Virginia (which later became W. Vir.).
David married Susannah Kershner and served in the Rev. War. He had an inn in Martinsburg, W. Vir. His mother, Catherine lived with him ontil her death. David is reported to be a democrate and did noy believe in God. David and his mother is buried in St. John's Church, Martinsburg.
Moses Vulgamott was a Civil War soldier but not a very good one, he deserted several times. His war record states that he was only 5'3" tall, had red hair and gray eyes. he was married to Nancy Mansfield and then when he was 60 he married Lizzie Cowgill who was 22 at the time. Moses out lived them both dying at the age of 72. He was a shingle maker by trade and well known in the county. He was buried in the family grave yard but it no longer is there in Gerrardstown, West Virginia.
