Okay, this is "The Escape" *Revised*. I spent about 3 or more hours on this story thinking it would only take about 15 minutes. Ah well, I hope you like it. It's longer and little different, but certain parts from the original were kept in the revision. I did change Taylor's age though, you'll see why later in the story. Well, email me what you think of this revision, please?! I wanna know!!!! Just click on the little "Email" star graphic at the bottom of the page to email me! 'Owww....' 16-year-old Taylor groaned as he opened his eyes and woke up to find himself in a cold, damp, and dark room. "Wha...?" he asked himself as he sat up and propped himself upon his elbows. His eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, but he still couldn't see anything and his head still hurt. 'Where am I?!' Taylor thought. 'Awww shit...now I remember...' Taylor added to his thoughts as he rubbed the back of his head to feel his matted, blood-stained, and not to mention long, blonde hair. His blue eyes were still adjusting to the dark as he looked around. 'It's cold...' he thought rubbing his arms to keep them warm despite the fact he was wearing jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt. He got up but had to balance himself against the wall because he felt dizzy all of a sudden. "Man, what was I hit with? A sledgehammer?!" Taylor asked himself aloud quietly. He sighed, closed his eyes, rubbed his hands together to keep them warm, and leaned on the wall. The cold and damp wall. 'Wait, what was that?' he thought, his heart skipped a beat and his adrenaline began pumping. A door. He had heard a door close somewhere. Now there were footsteps. Incoming footsteps. Tay's eyes widened. Someone was coming and there was no possible place for him to hide! His adrenaline began pumping on overdrive and his thoughts raced. He gripped the wall as his eyes moved back and forth quickly scanning the room again. Taylor made up his mind as fast as possible- he'd hide behind the door....wherever the door was. He heared creaking and guessed he was trapped in a two-story and whoever was coming for him was walking up the steps now. 'Shit!' Taylor screamed inside his head. He moved his left hand to the left a little and was shocked to find a crack in the wall. His head shot sideways and he immediately began moving his hands up the wall following the crack. His right hand hit it first- a hinge. This whole time he had been standing right next to the door and he didn't even know it. "Do I ever feel stupid now?!" Tay muttered to himself. His nerves were still on overdrive as he listened to the approaching footsteps get louder. His heart pounded in his chest and his mouth felt overly dry. Taylor licked his lips and stood straight and flat against the wall next to the door. His palms were sweaty and his face was now dripping sweat. The footsteps had stopped in front of the door and Taylor felt as though his heart wouuld burst out of his chest because it was beating so hard and so fast. He thought as though everything was now in slow motion- the door handle squeak coming slowly yet rather loudly. The door opened slowly and a young man popped his head in for only a second before closing the door again. Taylor let out a sigh of relief since he had been holding his breath that whole time without realizing it. 'That was too close for comfort!' Taylor thought and grinned. He hoped the person had been stupid enough to leave the door unlocked as he stepped toward the knob. He placed his hand around the icy metal doorknob and gave it a good quick turn- in which the door opened a little. Tay's heart skipped a beat with joy as he opened the door a little so he could peak outside and see if there was anyone around. Yet when he first peaked out the door he was blinded by the light in the hallway, even if it was fairly dim, and he had to shut the door and rub his eyes before peaking out again and not seeing anyone. 'Man, these people must be dumb!' Taylor cracked to himself and opened the door a little more to stick his head out a little. He didn't see much- just an empty hallway with two doors on either side. 'And so the adventure begins..' Tay thought as he shut the door a litle, closed his eyes, and muttered a short prayer quietly. "God, help me get out of here!" was his short-and-to-the-point prayer. He took a deep breath, opened the door a little again to make sure no one was out there and then slipped out the door. He headed for the door to his right first and tried the knob praying it would open....which it didn't. "Damn!" he muttered under his breath and turned to try the door on his left. "Please open, please open.." Taylor chanted quietly to himself as he reached for the knob of the door. He heard footsteps again and froze for a moment in fear. Tay quickly snapped out of it, however, and turned the knob- which caused the door to open. 'Aha!' he thought with triumph. 'I've found...a closet?!' he frowned. But the footsteps were still coming so he ducked inside and closed the door behind him, leaving it slightly ajar so he could peak out. The footsteps, he realized were coming down stairs- not up. 'Goody, so either I'm on the first floor or I'm in the basement...' Tay groaned again. The person opened a door across from Taylor that was hidden because it looked like a part of the wall. 'Whoa!' Tay was shocked. 'Please leave it open..' Tay added in his thoughts momentarily closing his eyes to plead. "Ha!" he laughed silently, glad to see the person was dumb enough to leave it open. Taylor opened the door of the closet and peaked his head around just in time to see the person disappear through the doorway of the door he couldn't open. 'Oh well, no time to find out!' he shrugged and crept over to the "wall-door", as he called it. He stepped through the doorway only to look up and see another door atop the dimly lighted stairs. 'Yep, I must be in a basement.' Taylor concluded and slowly started his ascend to the top, tiptoeing around and over the creaky steps. Taylor's adrenaline was still pumping wildly but he kept his cool as best as possible as he reached the top. The door suddenly swung inwards and Taylor froze to the wall behind it. His heart was now beating so fast he thought the person would hear it, but they didn't. They closed the door behind them miraculously not seeing Taylor hiding. Tay didn't make a sound until the person went through the doorway at the bottom of the steps. 'I hope no one else is goona come down those steps...' he thought to himself. Taylor tiptoed precariously across the top step and took hold of the door knob, turning it slowly to open the door only slightly. Once again he was blinded by the bright light coming from the other side of the door. He shut it, rubbed his eyes, then slowly opened it again to allow his eyes to adjust before he stepped out. He peaked out and didn't see anyone around, so he opened the door a little more and slit out. Taylor was no in a vast room with a couch and love seats and a big screen T.V. on his right, and to his left was a door with a peep hole. Straight ahead was a doorway and a counter, so her guessed it was the kitchen. Taylor had no idea what would happen when he opened a window or a door, so he looked for a place to hide and wait for someone else to open the door. Just his luck, as soon as he had hidden himself, someone walked in yet left the door slightly ajar. "These people are dumber than I thought!" Tay said to himself quietly before creeping out of his hiding place and heading for the door. 'Wait!' he thought and turned back around, his eyes scanning the rooms for something in particular. "Aha!" he muttered and dived to the counter of the kitchen quietly. He picked up a set of keys, then checked his pockets. 'Man, Zac's smarter than these guys!' Taylor grinned as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket. After that he crept out the door, leaving it slightly ajar behind him, and walked to one of the cars he knew the keys went to. Taylor checked to make sure no one was around, took a deep breath, then unlocked the car and got in. A smile crossed his lips as he put the key into the ignition and turned on the car. The engine started up with a purr and Tay put it into reverse to back out of the driveway. Tay looked in the rear view mirror at the house which once held him captive for a while. "So long..." Tay said quietly before returning his attention to the road and stepping on the gas. Taylor continued to drive without any problems and neared the highway. Taylor's grin grew even more as he got onto the on-ramp, heading for home. He turned on the radio, and a familiar song was playing: And no one to walk beside you I will come to you.... Taylor listened to the song play and marveled at how much his voice had changed within the last two years. He had all but pushed the memory of his daring escape out of his mind. Taylor drove on, listening to the radion and watching the highway signs. He now remembered the fight he had had with Isaac, his older brother- his best friend. It had been for that reason he had left the house at night, walking by himself. For that reason, he was kidnapped for reasons unknown by him. He sighed. He missed his brothers, his family. He couldn't wait to get back home and make amends with his older brother. Soon he got onto the off-ramp and entered familiar streets, He grinned even larger as he drove on. "Home free now!" he said to himself. As he got into his neighborhood and drove towards his house, he tried to think of what he'd say to Isaac. Taylor talked to himself this entire time to his house. "Hm...I'm sorry I was such a jerk and that I got beaten over the head and kidnapped, forgive me?!" Taylor said with a bit of humor. He pulled up next to his yard and saw a familiar person sitting on the front steps with their head in ther hands. "Ike?!" Tay asked as he got out of the car and closed the door. The head shot up and Isaac looked at his younger brother, tears beggining to well up. "Taylor?! Oh my god!" Isaac blurted out. He got up and walked to Taylor. Tay's emotions overtook him and he thought he would cry in joy. "Yeah Ike. It's me. I'm sorry..." Tay trailed off, embracing his brother in a hug. "I'm so glad you're okay!" Isaac replied, his voice shaky as he hugged his younger brother. "Come on, Zac's gonna wanna hear all about what happened! And Mom and Dad were worried half to death!" Isaac added as he walked back up to the front door and into the house. Taylor walked behind Ike and grinned a half-gin. 'Yeah, I'm glad to be home, too.' Taylor thought, following Ike inside. The escape had been interesting, and the re-telling of it was just as interesting. |
