The Hurffville Fire Company #1 is one of 3 companies that proudly protect 48,000 people living in a 26 square mile area. The area is known as Washington Township, Gloucester County New Jersey. The Township is approx. 15 miles east of Philadelphia PA, and 42 miles west of Atlantic City NJ. The 26 square mile area is broken up into 3 locals. Our local coverage area is primarily residential, but we also have 1 hospital and 7 schools included in this area. The local also contains strip malls and small offices throughout. Our company operates out of 2 stations. We are a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The 2 other companies that cover Washington Township are Grenloch Fire Company and Whitman Square Fire Company. The Washington Township Board of Fire Commissioners governs all 3 companies.
