Red Velvet Cake


RED VELVET CAKE

Cream together
1/2 C. Shortening
2 eggs
1 1/4 C. sugar

Make a paste of
1 T. cocao
2 oz. red food coloring
Add to above cream mixture until smooth
Add the following to the cream mixture and cream again until smooth with mixer
1 teasp vanilla
1 Cup buttermilk
1 t. salt
2 1/4 Cup cake flour

Mix or fold into all the above, but do NOT beat
1 teasp soda
1 Tables vinegar

Grease and flour cake pans or tube pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes

Frosting for Red Velvet Cake

2 1/2 T. cornstarch
1 1/4 C. water
Cook till like starch & cool
Cream till smooth the following
1 1/4 C. butter or oleo
1 1/4 C. sugar
1 t. vanilla
Add corstarch mixture and whip till like whip cream
Spread between layers and on cake
Frost tube or bundt pan style cake

This is a beautiful cake.
You may decorate with red cherries or whatever if for Christmas Holiday.
