1 box (2 layer size) chocolate cake mix
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
½ cup cold water
2 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoons almond favoring
1 cup sugar
5 Tablespoons butter or margarine
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
1 cup chocolate chips
Heat oven to 350deg.
Grease and flour a 14x10-inch pan .
Empty cake mix into a large bowl.
Empty can of cherries into the mix.
Pour water into empty can and swish it around to get all of the juice.
Pour into the bowl.
Add eggs and almond flavoring.
Mix gently with a wooden spoon to avoid crushing the cherries.
Pour cake batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
After cake has been baking 15 minutes, prepare the frosting.
Put sugar in a MEDIUM pan.
Add butter and milk.
Bring to a boil and boil gently 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and add chocolate chips.
Stir until chocolate is completely melted and blended.
Keep warm.
When cake is done, remove from the oven.
Let stand about 10 minutes.
Pour frosting over cake and spread gently to cover.
Let cool completely.
