2. Rev. Nicholas S. Smith Sr. Born on Oct 23, 1775 in Virginia. Nicholas S. died in Aug 1855, he was 79. Buried in Old Baptist Cemetery, near French Lick, Orange County, Indiana. Was on the census for French Lick Township, Orange County, Indiana in 1850.
Nicholas Smith Sr. purchased two eighty tracts of land about two miles north of Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois in 1830 and sold it between 1837 and 1839. After selling his land Nicholas moved back to Orange County, Indiana.
Nicholas made a will in 1850 and was recorded in the Court House in Paoli, Indiana. The will was executed in 1855.
On Jul 7, 1805 when Nicholas S. was 29, he first married Elizabeth Radcliff, daughter of R. Radcliff & Jane, in Garrard County, Kentucky. Born on Jul 31, 1788 in Kentucky. Elizabeth died in Apr 1836, she was 47. Buried in probably Robinson Old Cemetery, Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois.

However an old gentleman who knew him said he was a "nice old man". He and his wife had seven children and Mr. Terry said he thought the oldest one was around 15 years old when diptheria struck and all of the children died. He James Ford Smith has a beautiful marble stone (All the family stones we found were larger and nicer than the average). Mr. Terry is related to Sis and I through the Elliotts -- Harrison Smith's wife.

Smith Jr., according to what records we could find young Nicholas died shortly after his father died. He may have been marrried at one time. Aunt Nan thought he was, but we found no record of this or of heirs.

Nicholas Smith and wife Elizabeth joined the Six Mile Church in Shelby County, Kentucky by letter in 1816 and later moved their membership to the Unity Church in Washington County, Indiana, where he presented his papers and was given the same recognation he had held in other churches previously and he was accepted as a licensed Minister.
On Aug 5, 1844 when Nicholas S. was 68, he second married Catherine Walker, in Orange County, Indiana. Born about 1790 in Pennsylvania. Was on the census for French Lick Township, Orange County, Indiana in 1850.
They had no children.

Smith was a Methodist Minister. He had four children, one daughter marrying a Barnett and being the mother of Kell Barnett. Daniel died in Shoals, Indiana. He was a well respected man.
On Apr 18, 1835 when Daniel M. was 24, he married Mary Ann Barbee, daughter of Joshua Barbee & Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, in Crawford County, Illinois. Born on Jan 24, 1816. Mary Ann died on Feb 4, 1847, she was 31. Buried in Miller Cemetery, Northeast Township, Orange County, Indiana.

He is buried in the old Oblong Cemetery.

10 viii. Frankie Brown (1864-1942)
John and Nancy became unsatisfied in Robinson and decided to go west. They homesteaded some land in Kansas. They were there for a few years then there was an Indian uprising and they had to leave there under cover of darkness to save their lives. They came back to Crawford County and later moved to Oblong and lived in a house located where the Standard Oil Station now stands.
This family was living in Robinson, Illinois in 1850 and 1860 where John Smith was a miller. They supposedly went to Kansas for a time, then returned to Crawford County a few years later. Nancy Barbee Smith died in March 1876. John B. Smith remarried to Sarah Ann James. They later moved to Oblong, Illinois where he had a blacksmith business. He was also a cabinet and carriage maker.
John B. second married Sarah Ann James. Born on Oct 31, 1818. Sarah Ann died on Apr 7, 1893, she was 74. Buried in Old Robinson Cemetery, Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois.

Benjiman I think founded a hardware store, which was left to Azor and which is now owned by Azor's daughter and her son. She, Mrs. McCampbell, is the one that now has the old Nicholas S. Smith Sr. Family Bible. She is a most charming person, and her son is a pleasant chap. It's so nice to know them, if it is only slightly.

Alexander Houston operated a grocery store in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois for several years before deciding he wanted to get rich and had a few of his friends to group stake him and he headed for the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska. He came back much wiser but with no gold.

James worked in his father's shop for a while, then worked on a farm for Uncle Capt. Wood. After his marriage to Harriet, the couple moved to a farm owned by Uncle Capt. Wood about 7 miles southwest of Newton, Jasper County, Illinois. After Archie Leon's death in 1880 the family moved to Crawford County, Illinois, first on the Riley Buck Farm just south of the Smokey School, then to the Uncle Herb Wood farm where two more children were born and passed on. They then purchased the 80 acre farm where Eulan Aten lived. They leased the farm for oil and there were three light wells drilled in. They then sold the farm and moved into town where they lived for several years.
On Apr 11, 1876 when James Slyvester was 27, he married Harriet Jane "Jennie" Zeigler. Born in 1851. Harriet Jane "Jennie" died in 1947, she was 96. Buried in Oblong City Cemetery, Oblong, Crawford County, Illinois. Resided in Nov 1931.
